 The Roosevelt New Orleans Pays Tribute to Its Past with Re-creation of “Stormin’ of the Sazerac”

Drink Specials and Vintage Fashion Modeling Top Off Celebration

NEW ORLEANS, La. – July 31, 2012 – The Roosevelt New Orleans will pay tribute to its remarkable and colorful past through the re-creation of the historic “Stormin’ of the Sazerac,” Friday, September 28, at 3 p.m. inside the hotel’s legendary Sazerac Bar.

The event commemorates the 63rd anniversary of the first occasion when women, normally admitted only on Mardi Gras, began to receive equal status year-round at this world-famous bar. Female guests would join their male counterparts anytime for the Sazerac cocktail made popular by the bar, the Ramos Gin Fizz that was a favorite of Gov. Huey P. Long, and other concoctions.

To properly honor the original “Stormin’,” which took place in 1949, guests are encouraged to wear late-1940s attire and partake in a “vintage glamour” costume contest with local celebrity judges. The winner will receive a one-night stay at The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The event will also include hourly drawings for special giveaways beginning at 3:30 p.m.  

 

As part of the festivities, team members from The Roosevelt Emporium Gift Shop will model era hats while guests enjoy lip makeovers by Guerlain Spa and a vintage fashion show from RetroActive.
