Pure Adventures Announces Self-Guided Cycling Tours
Of Portugal That Places Guests in Historic Pousadas

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, JULY 3, 2012 – European travel company Pure Adventures (http://pure-adventures.com/), a division of Discover France Adventures (http://www.discoverfrance.com), just announced a new cycling itinerary on Portugal’s paved, back-country roads that encompass overnight stays at various Pousadas de Portugal, or repurposed monasteries and historic lodgings of kings and queens.

“The Alentejo region of Portugal is the perfect region to explore if you’re an adventure cyclist! It has coastline and loads of interior charm with a southerly regional climate similar to the famous Algarve just to the south but without the crowds,” explains Loren Siekman, founder/director of Pure Adventures and Discover France.

Portugal - The Charming Pousadas in Alentejo is a 7-day / 6-night program offered year round (except in July and August) starting at €1479 per person. It is self-guided, inclusive of six nights accommodations in Pousadas (luxury historic hotels), transfers from and to Lisbon Airport, six breakfasts, luggage transport from Pousada to Pousada, a roadbook with route maps, cue sheets, site visit information and other travel documentation to enhance your experience, emergency service and telephone assistance in English locally, cell phone for use with local contacts, orientation and personalized assistance on arrival day, rental bike delivery, pickup, and fitting. See: http://pure-adventures.com/tours/portugal3.php

Highlights enroute include the majestic Marvão Castle, pedaling past fields of cork trees, olive trees and vineyards, the 13th century medieval town of Marvão, a visit to a winery with wine tasting, a tour of an olive oil plantation, Arraiolos, famous for its rugs, visits to amazing white marble quarries and Évora - a World Heritage site.

Of special note this year is timing a trip to coincide with the Nov. 21-25 Arte Lisboawww.artelisboa.fil.pt, an international art fair held in Lisbon that brings together a prestigious selection of 40 national and international contemporary and modern art galleries from across Europe.

A choice of bicycles is offered including hybrid or electric bikes. In 2013, Pure Adventures will offer bicycles with e-drive retrofits that give an extra boost up the hills. See: http://www.bionxinternational.com/bionx-international-north-america/products/bike-retrofit-systems/

Guest accommodations are arranged in a series of pousadas selected for history, architecture, charm and location. Some meals are taken in the pousada. Local guides and experts are available by phone to assist during a self-guided trip with any kind of emergency and breakdown (except flats). Maps provided are accurate and topographical.
