FORT COLLINS, CO, June 28, 2012 -- ExperiencePlus! Bicycle Tours, which in 1972 became the first North American tour company to offer pedal tours in Europe (http://www.experienceplus.com/), is linking its itineraries to the stars.

As a result the company is experiencing unprecedented demand for its cycle trek that embraces Spain and the pilgrimage route of Camino de Santiago, a journey that surfaces in The Way, starring Martin Sheen and directed by his son Emilio Estevez.

“This route also happens to be one of life’s greatest treks,” said Maria Elena Price, co-owner and manager. “We saw the movie, and after we mentioned the tie-in to our tours on our website, we received a lot of comments that others had been inspired by it. Nearly all our departures are full this year; in this economic climate that isn’t always easy to do.”

She said two of the hotels that her company’s tour utilizes plus many of the sites visited are featured in The Way.

ExperiencePlus!’ 15-day program begins in Roncesvalles and ends in Santiago de Compostela. Departure dates are Aug. 24-Sept. 7 and Sept. 14-28, with possible additional departure dates pending. The per person double occupancy rate is $5,350 ($600 single supplement). The tour follows the route of the Codex Calixtinus, 1000 years of history along the Camino de Santiago. An 8-day program begins in León and ends in Santiago de Compostela. Departure dates are Aug. 31-Sept. 7 and Sept. 21-28. The per person double occupancy rate is $3,550 ($500 single supplement). The tour highlights include Cathedral of St. James, Spanish castles, medieval monasteries and miles of unspoiled rural scenery. See:http://www.experienceplus.com/tours/tours.html?tid=535

“I think the underlying draw of this tour is the unique historical value of bicycling one of the world's oldest pilgrimage routes. All guests receive a Pilgrims Passport and certificate of completion upon reaching Santiago. The itinerary stands apart from other trips we have in Europe because, as the movie shows, there is a sense of purpose and direction. It really becomes a personal journey. Some people just join because it’s a great trip with fabulous cycling, but through the course of the ride they really embrace the pilgrimage aspect of it,” explains Price.
