NEW "GOOD NIGHT" EXHIBITION ON DISPLAY AT JERUSALEM'S ISRAEL MUSEUM THROUGH
JANUARY 2013

New York - April 24, 2012: A new exhibition entitled "Good Night," detailing the transition from day to night and the experience of falling asleep, is now open in the Ruth Youth Wing of Art at Jerusalem's Israel Museum through January 31, 2013.

The family-friendly exhibition features works by artists from Israel and around the world, including interactive installations, Judaica and Jewish ethnography, archaeology and illustrated books. The selection of works explores the process of falling asleep as a ritual passage from being in one state of being to another, and the world inside the bedroom and in the sleeper's head.

The exhibition showcases specially commissioned works, including:

  • Lullaby: An interactive collage-like video of lullabies sung in different languages and melodies by museum visitors and staff
  • Alma's Blanket: A multi-lingual auditory installation of soothing comfort words projected through an electronic blanket woven out of colored electric cords
  • The Bed's Dream: A display of furniture with objects constructed of soft sponge, transforming the space into an intimate, sleep-conducive environment
  • Sleepers: A photography exhibition highlighting teenagers from around the world in varying stages of sleep
  • Goodnight Moon Room: An immersive environment that mirrors an illustration from the internationally renowned children's book, Goodnight Moon
  • Starry Sky: An interactive room illuminated by stars radiating across the ceiling that are manipulated by visitors' movements

"The Israel Museum continues to present spectacular art displays," said Haim Gutin, Israel Commissioner for Tourism, North and South America. "This exhibition is sure to provide some additional excitement for travelers arriving in Israel this year."

The exhibition will also boast a large, furnished childrens' room for relaxing, playing and story-telling.
