LONDON (December 19, 2011) - Award-winning South Indian restaurant Quilon at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces’ 51 Buckingham Gate will be undergoing a major refurbishment in 2012. With warm, grey, muted tones highlighted with amber and jade green-blue fabrics and bronze ironmongery and fittings, these elegant details will create a stunning, serene atmosphere, reflecting the restaurant’s refined, ethnic cuisine. Closing temporarily in January 2012, the restaurant will re-launch in March next year.
Having been open for 12 years, Quilon has commissioned award-winning designLSM to oversee the first design overhaul since its opening. The new design which includes intricately designed, traditionally inspired ‘jaali screens’ and a bespoke feature candle wall, with flickering tea lights, will reflect the restaurant’s cultural origins as well as its position as one of the leading restaurants in the world, in one of the most vibrant cities in the world.
The new design will include a new bar area, for pre-dinner or simply casual drinks, and a stunning new private dining room with private bar, kitchen and entrance. Seating up to 16, the dining room will be a restaurant within a restaurant, offering a unique dining experience.
Quilon was first awarded a Michelin star in the 2008, becoming the first restaurant serving southwest Indian cuisine to be bestowed with the accolade; it remains the only Michelin starred south Indian restaurant in the world.
Famed for his subtly spiced, baked black cod, beer/food matching and exquisite desserts, Executive Chef Sriram Aylur comments, “Having opened in 1999, the restaurant’s décor is very out-dated and I felt it really needed a contemporary new look. I wanted it to be in keeping with Quilon’s elegant cuisine and relaxed, stylish atmosphere, while reflecting the ethnicity and quality of our food. I feel we have really achieved this. We’re very excited to be working with designLSM. I’m looking forward to showing the beautiful new restaurant off in the spring!”
