Libertyville,, IL, August 3, 2011—Fall is the perfect time to visit Sicily, when summer’s torrid heat is over, but the sun and sea are warm, vineyards are laden with grapes and markets are filled with a bounty of vegetables.  TourCrafters has put together an 8-day/7-night land-only tour of this enchanting Mediterranean island that starts in Catania every Friday until November 11.  It makes a great addition to any Italian vacation, or TourCrafters’ reservations agents can offer the best transatlantic air fares available at the time of booking..

The Sicily Tour Embracing costs only $1,235 and includes 4-star superior hotel accommodations in Taormina and Palermo, daily buffet breakfasts, five dinners, two lunches, a cooking lesson, a wine tasting, a special lecture on the Mafia, sightseeing with local guides, a professional tour director and transportation by air-conditioned motorcoach or minivan, depending on the number of tour participants.  (Covered lunches and dinners include wine, mineral water and coffee.)

The itinerary takes in the charming resort of Taormina, which has a sensational view of the currently-erupting Mount Etna, Europe’s largest volcano; the ancient city of Syracusa and its Greek ruins; and the hillside town of  Agrigento, famous for its magnificent Valley of the Temples. From Palermo the itinerary continues to Segesta and its 5th-century B.C. Doric temple and the seaside town of Marsala, known for its sweet wines.  Then there’s a tour of Palermo’s palaces and churches; a visit to the 12th-century Cathedral of Monreale and its mosaics; and a tour of inland Sicily and the area of Corleone (shades of The Godfather).  Along the way there are also several “optional” tours and visits.
