Discover Cumberland Valley's Historical & Picturesque Crossroads on the Civil War Road Bike Tours

CARLISLE, PA (February 10, 2011) - This spring visitors will be able to emerge themselves in history and the beautiful outdoors with one of the Civil War Road Bike Tours that will be rolling through Cumberland Valley. The bike tours will be a new program running from May through July 2011 and will consist of a variety of fully guided, multi-day tour programs throughout the Cumberland Valley region.

The bike tours, developed and provided by Penn Trails LLC, will consist of historical themes such as The Road to Freedom Ride, Generals, Battlefields & Tactics and the Homefront Tour. There will be six scheduled tour weekends including overnight stays and stops at historically significant locations and unique attractions. The tours will also include a pre-determined or picnic style lunch and a dinner reservation for the group.

Penn Trails has partnered with the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau, local bed and breakfasts, hotels, shops, restaurants and historical sites to offer a diverse experience to participating riders. "The tours will entice visitors that are interested in biking, the outdoors, history and those looking for a unique getaway," said Director of Tourism, Shireen Farr.

Each tour will include a guide and itinerary laying out the route, scheduled stops and meals.  The tours will be designed for active people (18+), who are novice to intermediate riders and are comfortable with 4-5 hours of riding a day. Visit the Civil War Road BikeTours Web site at www.civilwarbiketours.com for more information, itinerary layouts and scheduling.

The Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau is also part of Pennsylvania's Dutch Country Roads region, the number one visited region in PA, a true vacation destination where country meets city and the past lives side-by-side with the present.

The mission of the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau is to promote Cumberland Valley as a tourist destination, attract visitors to the area, enhance the visitor's experience, and to encourage and promote overnight stays.
