PHILLY'S MORE IMPRESSIONISTIC

09-20-2007

PHILADELPHIA, September 19, 2007 - Fans of Pierre-Auguste Renoir can delight in two stunning exhibitions of the artist's works this fall in Philadelphia. Visitors are encouraged to combine a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art's exclusive showing of the Renoir Landscapes exhibition with a stop at the legendary Barnes Foundation, home to the largest collection of the artist's internationally renowned masterpieces. Combined, there will be more than 250 Renoir masterpieces on display in the region this fall, and they will all be located within a 15-minute drive of one another.

Renoir Landscapes:

Visitors can begin their Impressionist marathon at Renoir Landscapes, a stunning exhibition of approximately 70 of the artist's landscapes making its only U.S. stop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from October 4, 2007-January 6, 2008.

Celebrated for his portraits, Renoir's landscapes capture his passion for the outdoors, depicting the lively activity of The Grande Boulevards of Paris, the calm serenity of Claude Monet Painting in His Garden at Argenteuil and the exotic scenery of a View of Naples, Morning. With works from private and public collections, the exhibition concentrates on pieces from the first 30 years of Renoir's career and is segmented into five categories (Landscape Themes, Gardens, Cityscapes, Figures in the Landscape and Travel Landscapes) that capture images from his travels in Italy and Algeria. Even the museum restaurant will get into the spirit of the exhibition with specially designed menus featuring French wines and cuisine.

Tickets can be purchased by calling (215) 235-SHOW (7469), Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or online at www.philamuseum.org.

Renoir At The Barnes:

After indulging in this Impressionist feast, visitors won't have to go far to enjoy even more Renoir masterpieces. Less than six miles away in Merion, The Barnes Foundation houses 181 works by the Impressionist artist. Wandering through gallery after gallery, visitors will be stunned by the vast collection of Renoir's works. Art lovers will enjoy comparing Renoir's styles, brush strokes and subjects with the works of Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, Soutine and others who share wall space throughout this idiosyncratic but breathtaking collection.

From Center City, The Barnes is accessible by public transportation and is just a few blocks walk from the Ardmore-bound 44 bus or the R5 Regional Rail to Merion Station. To purchase tickets to The Barnes Foundation, call (610) 667-0290 or visit www.barnesfoundation.org. Because admission is limited and demand for tickets is high, visitors are advised to reserve tickets four to six weeks prior to their visit.
