Capella’s Star Rises with Michelin and Gault Millau Honors at Schloss Velden

12-06-2007

VELDEN, AUSTRIA (December 5, 2007) – When Capella Hotels and Resorts debuted with the opening of Schloss Velden in May, it did so with a promise to provide uncompromising and top-tier experiences for guests.  If recent accolades are any indication, it has succeeded - within a few short months of its opening, Schloss Velden has received recognition from two of Europe’s most prestigious and influential culinary ratings organizations.  Under the direction of Chef Silvio Nickol, Schlossstern, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, has earned a one star rating from the prominent Michelin Guide Austria and has been awarded 17 out of a possible 20 points by Gault Millau Austria.

Schlossstern succeeded in meeting the Michelin Guide’s list of five criteria which includes quality of products, mastery of flavor and cooking, “personality” of cuisine, value for the money and consistency between visits.  Gault Millau, one of the most significant French restaurant guides, gives points strictly based on the quality of the food served.  And, in its first year of rating spa experiences, Gault Millau named the hotel’s signature Auriga spa and wellness center the best in Austria.

“The recognition from Michelin and Gault Millau at Schloss Velden is a true honor,” said Horst Schulze, President, Capella Hotels and Resorts.  “To receive such accolades so quickly validates Capella’s commitment to providing customized and bespoke experiences for our guests.”

Schloss Velden is located in the breathtaking Austrian lakeside village of Velden and is a renowned landmark in the Carinithian region.    Schlossstern serves dinner nightly Wednesday through Saturday and lunch on Sunday afternoons, and will close from January 9 – February 26, 2008.   In addition to world-class dining in Schlossstern, the hotel offers guests a selection of local and international fare at Seespitz, its sleek and modern lakeside restaurant.

Auriga, Capella Hotels and Resorts signature spa and wellness center, is comprised of a 30,000-square-foot spa, 14 private treatment rooms, personal training space, a 130-foot indoor vitality pool, steam room, whirlpool, world-class fitness center, an interactive golf simulator and a grotto-like ice room complete with falling snow .
