05-28-2010

Annual Brick Street BBQ & Bike Rally set to draw competitors, visitors from across the country to Marietta, Ohio

MARIETTA, OH (May 27, 2010) – Have you ever wondered what the “professional” barbecue contestant does differently than you in your own backyard? What are the secrets to winning a sanctioned contest? The Marietta Brick Street BBQ event June 11-12 in historic downtown Marietta, Ohio is set to answer those questions and more. The event will attract top barbecue competitors from across the country for a grand showdown of skill and flavor.

More than 30 teams are scheduled to compete in the annual event, which is both sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and serves as the first leg of the Ohio Triple Crown BBQ competition.

Entertainment will run non-stop from center stage Friday evening through Saturday. The barbecue contestants will be cooking all night on Friday in preparation for the Saturday competition. There will be barbecue vendors, a Budweiser Beer Garden, cool summer treats, an amateur BBQ contest, and activities for all ages throughout the weekend. A $5 contribution to support the Historic Colony Theatre is requested from the general public at the gate. Tickets for the barbecue tasting and peoples choice voting are available for an additional purchase from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Marietta Bike Rally "100 mile+ Dice Run" will kick-off on Saturday, June 12. The Dice Run will take open road enthusiasts along the region’s beautiful rivers and through the scenic hills of Washington County with stops at two historical sites, Big Bottom Massacre Memorial and Miners Park. Entry cost is $15 rider/ $10 passenger. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. and the ride begins at 10:00 a.m. For more details, contact: Steve Hune at 740-373-4694 or email shune@att.net.
