µ      Picturing The Bible, The Earliest Christian Art – Fort Worth, Now through March 30 – Currently on display at the Kimbell Art Museum is a spectacular exhibit of many of the greatest treasures of early Christianity from around the world. This landmark exhibition includes major loans from the Vatican, the British Museum, the Louvre, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others, including rarely or never before loaned artifacts from the Vatican collection, such as a gem-encrusted gold cross from the late sixth century. Scheduled tours of this one-of-a-kind exhibit are Tuesdays through Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. and Fridays, at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.  Other tours are available upon request. µ      Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame Show – Port Arthur, January 19 – This year, the annual music festival will celebrate what would be Janis Joplin’s 65th birthday in Joplin’s hometown of Port Arthur, Texas. The festival will include: bands playing blues and R&B, a set of Janis Joplin's music performed by Andra Mitrovich & 98 in the Shade, and the announcement of this year’s inductee into the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame. µ      19th Annual Mardi Gras Upriver – Jefferson, February 1-3 – Mardi Gras in Jefferson dates back to 1875. The town’s annual Mardi Gras celebration is held “upriver” along historic brick streets on the banks of the Big Cypress Bayou, once a thriving river port in the mid-1800's. The Grand Parade, the Children's Parade, live music, street dances, food, arts and crafts, and fun for the entire family are on tap for this cultural festival. For more information, visit www.mardisgrasupriver.com.

µ     Mas o Menos 100k Mountain Bike Endurance Fest – Terlingua, February 14-16 – Hundreds of cyclers will head to Terlingua in the Big Bend area of West Texas on President’s Day weekend in February. Considered one of the most challenging mountain bike competitions anywhere, the course takes cyclists through the Chihuahuan Desert to test their mettle against the best the desert has to offer. For the less ambitious, the weekend includes opportunities for fun rides and scenic tours. Camping is allowed at race headquarters and there are several other lodging options nearby. µ    Celebration of Whooping Cranes & Other Birds – Port Aransas, February 22-24 – This annual festival celebrates the migration of the endangered Whooping Crane.
