~Iconic Resort Turns Winter Wonderland for December~

 

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va., December 10, 2009 – There is no place like The Greenbrier to experience the holidays.  With the resort’s 6,500 acres adorned with millions of lights and holiday décor, plus special holiday events and savings, The Greenbrier is the epitome of winter wonderland for adults and children of all ages.

Weeks of planning and preparation have been underway to ensure that a stay at The Greenbrier is an unforgettable one for first-time guests and those whom for multiple generations have made The Greenbrier a long-standing holiday tradition.  This year’s lavish decorations include: 

  • Nearly 23,000 lbs of ice used to carve Santa’s sleigh and reindeer
  • A 90-foot Christmas tree at the North Entrance
  • More than 10,000 ornaments, 1,500 feet of garland, 500 bows, 100 decorated trees and 100 wreaths
  • A signature 14-foot poinsettia tree made with 325 poinsettias, plus 3,600 poinsettias throughout the resort

In addition to the spectacular décor the resort will host a variety of events, kicking off the festivities with The Greenbrier’s Annual Concert Series – now underway, providing guests with musical offerings from all genres throughout the month of December.

 The Christmas Comes Early package, valid through December 20, allows guests to experience the good cheer before the holiday rush with a $100 gift certificate applicable toward resort activities or their holiday shopping.  Rates for the two-night package start at $710.

Those looking to shop ‘til they drop, should stay during the Holiday Shopping & Spa Weekend, from December 11-13.  Guests during this open-house weekend may experience exclusive boutiques, a holiday lunch buffet, 15 percent off the new Peach Cobbler Pedicure, 25 percent off select items at The Christmas Shop and complimentary gift wrapping.  

From December 23-29, The Greenbrier will offer a special Christmas Package with rates from $356 per night that includes access to the resort’s dazzling live entertainment, holiday workshops and more including:

  • Performances of “The Nutcracker”
  • Santa’s Jingle Bell Parade
  • Hot chocolate and cookies served nightly
  • Storytelling, art classes, music and dance events for children
  • Fine art exhibits
  • Wine tasting seminar
  • Ballroom dance instruction
  • ’Twas the night before Christmas Gingerbread Ball and Dinner Party
