POWERADE’S 26TH ANNUAL RUN BARBADOS FESTIVAL

Bridgetown, BARBADOS (September 15, 2009) – Hundreds of international competitors will be traveling to Barbados to participate in the 26th annual Run Barbados festival on December 4th-6th, 2009.  This event, which stands out as the oldest running marathon series hosted by Powerade, comprises a 5k Fun Run and Walk, a 10k, a Half-Marathon, and a Marathon.  In addition to the races, competitors and spectators are invited to the Finishline Party at the Esplanade, featuring water sports and the very best of local food, art, and entertainment. Run Barbados is built around a healthy competitive spirit which makes this event continue to be a fun, family event.

Run Barbados has hosted a plethora of world rated road runners.  Rob de Castella won the first 10k event when the races originated in 1983, only one year before his heroics in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.  Bostonian Kim Goff, four-time Big Sur International Marathon champion also participated in the Run Barbados events.

Run Barbados was created to promote a healthy lifestyle, however it simultaneously allows visitors to get a taste of Barbadian culture as well.  Barbadians are passionate about sports and love to share their passion with the tourists.  Run Barbados allows competitors and their family and friends to not only enjoy a fun race, but also great parties, beautiful beaches, and friendly people – all in one fantastic vacation to paradise.
