Clayoquot Wilderness Resort Tells Guests: “Make Us a Deal”

07-16-2009

In this year of value-based travel, guest requests are defining package offers.

Tofino, B.C., July 16, 2009 – As the signature resort for “glamping” (glamorous camping), Clayoquot Wilderness Resort built its reputation by tailoring each guest’s experience to meet his/her own desires.  This year is no different, even when it comes to finding the perfect, personalized “value add” that all travellers are asking for in this down economy.

“We are saying to clients who are calling: ‘make us a deal’,” says managing director, John Caton. “ Sure it may be easier to offer everyone four nights for the price of three, or a big discount, but for many of our guests, a personalized value add can make a difference on whether they come this year or stay at home. Money isn’t their biggest motivator but additional experiences or making their trip easier may be.”

Listening to past guests’ requests helped shape today’s deals. In some cases, families would like to bring grandparents along to share the experience with grandkids.  Clayoquot Wilderness Resort says bring them along, and they can stay for free.  Others mention the flights to Vancouver are what are holding them back. Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is offering to pay for those flights.  They want extra spa treatments thrown in?  No problem.  Can only afford four nights but would prefer to stay for seven?  Clayoquot Wilderness Resort will see what they can do.  Can’t arrive into Vancouver early enough to catch the chartered float plane over to the remote resort, set in the heart of the UNESCO protected Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve? Clayoquot Wilderness Resort will cover the night in Vancouver.

Typically, rates at the eco-luxury resort start at CDN$4750.00 (US $4265.00*) for a three night, four day experience beginning in May, for a season that lasts through September.  Four and seven night packages are also available, as well as group and children rates. More information on the resort can be found at www.wildretreat.com or by calling 1-888-333-5405.

“Everyone has their own individual idea of what will make them take a special trip this year. Like every resort out there, we need to incentivize more people to travel to our destination, but we don’t want to presume there is one particular magic bullet offer that will make the phones ring. Any more than we presume we know the type of experience our guests will want before they get here,” says Caton.

And this year, along with the beautifully laid out white canvas tents, cedar planked floors, Persian rugs, four poster beds, antique furniture, down duvets, remote controlled fireplaces, Healing Grounds spa, 3,000 square foot cookhouse and open kitchen, locally inspired gourmet cuisine, extensive wine list, premium craft ales and 100 year old scotch, games room and private dining tents, the resort has added in more adventure to roughen the luxurious edges.

A 15 meter (49 foot) tree platform gives guests a birds eye view of one of the oldest and rarest temperate rainforests in the world, a 285 meter (935 foot) long flight line allows guests to literally fly over the rainforest, and a specially designed paintball course have been added to rock climbing, kayaking, whale watching, hiking, horseback riding, archery, skeet shooting, bear watching and mountain biking.  Fishing is also a favourite activity and the region is seeing some of the strongest salmon runs in over three years.
