THE WAYFARERS’ UK BRONTË WALK IS NAMED A “TOUR OF A LIFETIME” BY NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER

06-02-2009

Newport, RI (June 2009) –The Wayfarers adventure walks have earned it a place on National Geographic Traveler’s50 Tours of a Lifetime” list.  In its just-published May/June 2009 issue, the magazine includes The Wayfarers among 50 prestigious travel outfitters such as Sierra Club Outings and Big Five Tours & Expeditions.  The England tour traces a route through the homeland of the Brontë sisters which inspired such literary oeuvres as Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.

This year’s list of top outfitters is organized into three categories: active, classic, and cultural. The Wayfarers’ six-day Brontë is one of 18 honored in the subdivision, “Active Tours.” Tours were chosen based on their providing hand-crafted experiences that are eco and culturally sensitive, offering uncommon access, and fostering interaction with locals.

“Every year, the editorial team combs the world to find the most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided, and most sustainable tours,” said Senior Editor Norie Quintos. “This year, we wanted to make sure the trips picked were also a great value, given the economic climate. What we found is that there is no better time to go on a guided tour than now as the traditional savings offered by an outfitter being able to negotiate better rates on a trip’s components is magnified by cheaper airfares, a strengthened dollar, and more discounts, freebies, and extras.”

In accordance with this view, The Wayfarers has adjusted prices for its 2009 walking vacations in the United Kingdom, Europe, and South Africa, reflecting the newly increased buying power of the U.S. dollar. These attractive new rates represent savings of US $400 per person in the UK and Europe, and US $850 per person in South Africa. Additionally, the company has leveraged the dollar’s current strength to secure hotel upgrades on some trips, while at the same time maintaining the reduced prices.
