Kapalua Resort Unveils Kapalua Adventures

11-14-2007

KAPALUA RESORT, MAUI, HAWAI‘I (November 12, 2007) – Maui’s renowned Kapalua Resort – one of Hawaii’s most prestigious luxury resorts – will soon launch Kapalua Adventures, a unique amenity that will offer island visitors a rare, outdoor experience that will be exciting as well as educational.  The Kapalua Adventure Center and Mountain Outpost are scheduled to open on January 7, 2008.

Kapalua Adventures’ new Mountain Outpost will feature one of the largest and longest zipline systems in North America, offering eight dual-track ziplines, two suspension bridges, a comprehensive high ropes challenge course, and a four-station climbing tower.  In combined length, it offers nearly two miles of scenic adventure with the longest zipline at 2,200 feet in length.

More than just an adventure, the Mountain Outpost experience offers guests an opportunity to learn about the geological, natural and cultural history of the area from qualified, knowledgeable guides who have been fully trained in guest service, an in-depth understanding of the history, culture, flora and fauna of the area as well as safety and first-aid.

“We’ve been listening to what our guests and the travel industry have been saying as it relates to adventure activities and in the spirit of guest satisfaction, we’ve spent the last two years developing a state-of-the-art, dynamic, safe, educational and environmentally friendly activities program and complex, and this is only the beginning,” said Adam Quinn, Kapalua Resort’s director of resort activities.

The Kapalua Adventures Mountain Outpost’s zipline system enables guests to quietly zip above the tree canopy, deep ravines and other natural features. It also offers two suspension bridges, a comprehensive high ropes challenge course and climbing tower. The Mountain Outpost provides a safe, comfortable, enjoyable experience for virtually all ages and fitness levels to suit everyone’s interest, schedule and level of daring. Much of the experience is also handicapped-accessible.

The Mountain Outpost experience has been carefully designed to minimize impact to the natural environment. Guests are transported from the Kapalua Adventure Center to the Mountain Outpost in biodiesel-fueled Mercedez-Benz Unimogs via existing pineapple field access roads. A “zipper lifter” will transport guests up the mountainside to access the zipline system. Ziplines allow guests to view plant and bird life with minimal disruption to the ecosystem. Guides keep guests on paths to minimize erosion, while avoiding sensitive areas.

The Kapalua Adventure Center, located below the Kapalua Golf Academy in the clubhouse across from Kapalua Logo Shop, is a destination unto itself. The outfitters shop features premium quality clothing and gear. Other highlights include a café with fresh, light healthy fare, specialty coffee bar and an impressive selection of beer and wine, a high-energy multi-media entertainment and information center, and trained adventure concierges ready to assist guests in creating their own outdoor experience of a lifetime.

Environmentally conscious guests can rest assured that their fun will also do good. Kapalua Resort has pledged 10 percent of the profits generated by the Adventure Center to the Pu‘u Kukui Watershed Preserve, which is home to home to several of the world’s rarest plants and insects that live in pristine tropical bogs and delicate ecosystems. This conservation-zoned land provides all irrigation and potable water for Kapalua Resort, Honolua Plantation and Kapalua Farms, and drinking water for much of the West Maui community.

“We hope that our support of the Pu‘u Kukui Watershed Preserve will help the management team achieve their goals in preservation of our treasured pristine lands, so future generations can enjoy them,” Quinn added.

Prices for Kapalua Adventures Mountain Outpost activities and tours range from $60 to $159, depending on length and type of activities selected. Custom packages can also be created at a variety of price levels.
