$10,000 Makes Wedding Dreams Come True for Lucky Grad Student and Denver Fiancée


(May 8, 2009) Winter Park, Colorado. Winter Park & The Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce gave away $10,000 to one lucky winner and three Summer Music in the Mountains Weekend getaways to three finalists to cap off the Welcome Back to Winter Park promotion.

More than 4,000 en! tries were made on the Welcome Back to Winter Park website for a chance to win. Four finalists were selected and appeared at “Spring Splash” at Winter Park Resort to choose a Welcome Back suitcase. One suitcase held the $10,000 grand prize. The other three suitcases were filled with runner-up prizes, including lodging and summer music weekend packages.

Vanderbilt graduate student Maria D’Englere opened the $10,000 suitcase, becoming the grand prizewinner. She and her fiancée, Denver resident Will Proto, plan to use her winnings to pay for their wedding after she graduates in 2010.  Marie’s first trip to Winter Park was when she was 14 and just learning to ski.  “I’m so excited, I can’t believe this!” said Marie after winning the money.  “Will and I are huge fans of Winter Park and always will be.”

Mary Medicus from Lafayette, Colo! rado won the Summer Jazz Getaway. The prize includes two tickets to the Winter Park Jazz Festival, two nights lodging at Iron Horse Resort, two summer passes to Winter Park Resort and two bottles of wine from Verso Cellars.

Juan Rios from Odessa, Texas won the Winter Park Blues Festival Getaway. The prize includes two VIP tickets to the Winter Park Blues Festival, two nights lodging from Winter Park Lodging by Owner, two summer passes to Winter Park Resort and a $50 gift certificate to Smokin’ Moe’s Ribhouse & Saloon.  “Winter Park will always have a special place in my heart because it’s where I learned to snowboard,” says Rios.

Finally, Sally Edwards from Highlands Ranch, Colorado won the Winter Park Music Fest Getaway. The prize includes four tickets to the Winter Park Music Festival, two nights lodg! ing from Best Western Alpenglow Lodge, two summer passes to Winter Park Resort and one year’s worth of free sandwiches from Rudi’s Deli. “We enjoy staying in Winter Park and the Fraser area,” says Edwards. “It’s so close to Denver and the drive is beautiful.”
