New “Late Night” Series Invites Younger Audience

Event Series Features Dancing, Unique Venues, After-Hours Appeal

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 26, 2009) – The 2009 Daytona Beach International Festival, held April 16 through May 2, 2009, has announced the new Festival Late Night Series.  Designed to appeal to a younger audience, the Late Night Series features smaller, more intimate venues, exciting new artists, accessible ticket pricing and later start times.  The new series will kick off on the Festival’s opening weekend, April 17-18, with a sultry performance by Russian-born singer Sophie Millman at the Bank and Blues Club.  The series also includes a salsa dance night, jazz trio, and a YouTube internet sensation, that fuses classical music with hip-hop and contemporary styles.

Sophie Milman

April 17-18, 10 p.m.

Bank and Blues Club, Daytona Beach
Russian-born singer and rising jazz star, Sophie Milman, has toured the world, won a Juno Award, and sold hundreds of thousands of records.  With her breathtaking performance of a sultry and critically acclaimed collection of standards, Millman has appeared on stage with international musical superstars such as Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers, Chick Corea and Jesse Cook.  Tickets: $28

 

Salsa Under the Stars with Tiempo Libre

Friday, April 24, 10 p.m.

Plaza Resort & Spa, Daytona Beach
Following their Thursday night concert in DeLand, Tiempo Libre will keep the party going with a beachfront salsa night under the stars.  Named the "Best Latin Band 2008" by the New York Times, the Grammy-nominated Tiempo Libre will turn the Plaza Resort & Spa into the hottest dance party in town with mojitos, cigar rollers and more.  Tickets: $20

 

Chuchito Valdes Jazz Trio

April 30 - May 2, 10 p.m.

Bank and Blues Club, Daytona Beach
Pianist, composer and arranger Chuchito Valdes will showcase his considerable talents several nights during the Festival, including this intimate performance at the Bank and Blues Club in Daytona Beach.  Leading his Afro-Cuban based Latin-Jazz Ensemble, Valdes will flex his musical muscles in a fiery and sophisticated performance that draws on Bebop, Cha-Cha, and Afro-Cuban influences.  Tickets: $28
