  April (value) in Portugal

Let's not mince words. These days everyone wants a bargain and, with the way things are going, a good deal is about the only way to get anyone motivated to go on a trip. With this in mind, we did a random sample of spring and pre-summer deals at hotels across Portugal and we found lots of great prices at great places.

April in Portugal

Spring is a wonderful time to be in Portugal. Flowers bloom on the warm hillsides of the Madeira islands and in the southern Algarve region. Temperatures climb into the 70s and airfares are still quite affordable. Four airlines now fly directly to Portugal from the United States. Here the traveler will find some of the top-rated golf courses in Europe and a total of 13 UNESCO World Heritage sites that include the vineyards on the island of Pico in the Azores and the Vale do Coa Archeological Park. Meanwhile, Portugal has more castles per capita than any other place on earth and the largest cork forest in the world. All this happens in a country about the size of Indiana.

Okay, so Portugal is a good value and it's easy to get to, but it's also an authentic place. The Portuguese are known for being a warm and welcoming people, and they are proud of their land and its 800 years of history. An added bonus is that it has the mildest climate in Europe, really great beaches on the Atlantic and dozens of new hotels and inns.
