02-11-2009

Kick off the New Year with Yoga Week!

Peter Island, BVI (February 11, 2009) Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands invites travelers to stick to that New Year's resolution of a healthy lifestyle, by introducing new Ayurvedic treatments and programs at its rejuvenating spa. Dr. Sabari Sabereesan and Dr. Raja Mannar, two experts from India in the field of yogic science and naturopathic medicine, are now on staff at the private island retreat to develop comprehensive and authentic spa programs, and introduce a series of Yoga Weeks.

Peter Island Resort's February Yoga Week offers guests the opportunity for physical, mental and spiritual rejuvenation through yoga, breathing, meditation and the healing arts. Yoga Week highlights include:

*Personalized yoga and lifestyle consultation

*Classes conducted by experienced yoga and naturopathy doctors

*Yogic diet on the beach

*Personalized take home yoga programs

*Optional free classes with a yoga/dance instructor on property

Rates for the February 23 to March 2, 2009 and March 16 to 22, 2009 Yoga Weeks start at $5,650 for five nights and $7,850 for seven nights. Based on double occupancy. Taxes and gratuities not included.

In addition to Yoga Week, new Ayurvedic treatments have been incorporated into a wellness program that is offered year-round at the 10,000 square-foot spa. The "Tune into Wellness" program includes guests' choice of consultation sessions, detox and rejuvenation packages and interesting treatments including traditional udwarthanam (herbal) massages and hastha pathaabyanga (hand and foot balancing massage).

Overseeing the wellness programs are two of the resort's newest spa specialists who joined the Peter Island team in spring 2008. Dr. Sabareesan, a 10-year veteran in the studies of naturopathy and yogic science, previously established and oversaw wellness centers in his hometown of Chennai and Paradise Nature Cure in Malaysia and Thailand. Prior to his appointment at Peter Island, Dr. Mannar garnered experience as a naturopathic consultant & yoga specialist at India's National Institute of Naturopathy, and Bapu Nature Cure Hospital and Yogashram in Delhi. He also held tenure as a wellness consultant at Sunrise Naturopathy Health Resort in Jaipur.

Peter Island Resort combines the sophistication and exclusivity of a private island retreat with the relaxed, understated elegance of the British Virgin Islands. The Resort recently made the 2008 Conde Nast Traveler "Gold List" as well as the 2009 Travel + Leisure "T+L 500", which lists readers' choices for the top 500 hotels in the world, in the magazine's January issue. In addition, the resort was named among the Top 25 Hotels in the Caribbean by Travel + Leisure in the magazine's "World's Best Awards," released in the August 2008 issue. Peter Island has three luxury villas available: 3-bedroom Hawk's Nest, 4-bedroom Crow's Nest and the new 6-bedroom Falcon's Nest.

In addition to the villas, Peter Island features 52 rooms and suites. With 1,800 acres of lush, untainted tropical island, five beaches, a private yacht, tennis courts, scuba diving and a staff that goes "above and beyond" to satisfy guests, Peter Island Resort has truly evolved into the idyllic "Caribbean Classic."

More about The Spa at Peter Island: The Spa at Peter Island adopts an earthy ambiance in tune with the powerful Caribbean Sea that surrounds it. The Spa offers treatments and products harvested from Peter Island and neighboring islands. Abundant fresh flowers and the luscious fragrance of aromatherapy candles in the reception area enhance one's sense of tranquility upon entering the spa, offering just the right introduction for the tropical scrubs, massages and water treatments about to be experienced.  If guests can't decide which tantalizing treatment to indulge in, they can escape to a private "bohio" seaside suite while ocean breezes and healing hands stroke their body.  Relaxation with all its attendant touch, sound, scent and scenery is the therapeutic antidote adopted at the Spa at Peter Island.
