Society of American Travel Writers Launches Online Travel Auction

11-07-2007

Oak Creek, WI USA – The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) kicked off its annual online auction of travel experiences today, which is found at www.satwauction.com and is open only through November 17. Once available exclusively to Society members, the annual travel auction is now open to the general public. It features more than 100 unique travel experiences, which will be sold online to the highest bidder.  All proceeds from the auction benefit SATW, whose mission is to promote responsible journalism, provide professional support and development for members and encourage the conservation and preservation of travel resources worldwide.  Items being auctioned at were donated SATW members.

“Bidding at the auction is a great way to pick up a great holiday gift for that someone special,” said SATW President Laura Daily.

According to Daily, there are more than $110,000 worth of travel experiences on the auction block.  Bidders will have the opportunity to make offers on everything from a week on a tropical island paradise in the Maldives, to hot air ballooning in Virginia, exploring the Amazon, or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Some lots have expiration or blackout dates and are non-transferable, so bidders should check carefully before placing a bid
  • Bid increments are $100 for lots valued more than $1,000; $50 for lots valued between $999-500; $10 for lots valued at $100-499 (There are no increments for anything under $100.)
  • Closing times for the auction lots are staggered from Nov. 15-17 and bidders are encouraged to check bids on each lot regularly and ensure they’re not outbid
  • Because the auction is international, end date formats are in British format, read as DAY/MONTH/YEAR.

With some 1,200 members, the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) is a non-profit professional association that works to promote responsible travel journalism and to provide professional support for its members, including travel journalists, photographers, editors, electronic media, film lecturers, television and film producers, and public relations representatives from the travel industry.
