GCAC Expands Arts Partnership Awards Program

After 25 years of supporting the efforts of local businesses in connecting with the local arts community, the Greater Columbus Arts Council has expanded its Business Arts Partnership awards program, adding three new awards and changing the name to the Community Arts Partnership awards.

The new name and awards reflect GCAC's goal to honor the crucial work that both businesses and individual community members do to sustain the arts in Columbus. Awards will be given in the following categories: Small Business, Medium Business, Large Business, Arts Partner, Emerging Arts Leader and Arts Educator.

The Art of Partnership

Local arts organizations are collaborating in creative ways to reach new audiences as they honor Columbus' artistic treasures and present exciting, multidisciplinary exhibitions and events.

Artistic collaboration opens doors to venture beyond the usual safe zones, explore new environments and works to extend an organization's scope through education and experimentation. Additionally, pooling resources, a must during more trying economic times, helps groups stay afloat and builds stronger connections within the arts community.

GCAC Awards 2008 Individual Artists Fellowships

The Greater Columbus Arts Council awarded four local artists with a 2008 Individual Artists Fellowship.

TThe awards, recommended in an anonymous review process by panelists from outside central Ohio, assist recipients in any manner they choose to support the creation of new works and/or the advancement of their careers. Additionally, all fellowship recipients are eligible to apply for GCAC's Dresden/Saxony Residency, a two- to three-month residency in Dresden, Germany.

Connecting Children to Creative Thinking Through the Arts

Art in the House, modeled in part after GCAC's award-winning Children of the Future program, officially began programming last February in partnership with the Columbus Federation of Settlements and TRANSIT ARTS.

While TRANSIT ARTS' primary focus is on teens, Art in the House is geared toward elementary and middle school children. The goal of the program is to begin the children's connection to creative thinking, leadership and lifelong learning through the arts.

Columbus Arts Festival to Jury Artists February 7 & 8

The Columbus Arts Festival presented by Time Warner Cable's visual artists are selected through a blind jury process. Close to 1,000 artists apply to GCAC's nationally recognized festival, only 230 of whom are invited to participate. Artists submit four images of their work and an image of their booth set-up for the jury panel to score. This panel consists of visual artists, curators, art professors and gallery owners. Artists with the highest scores are invited to come to Columbus.

The public is welcome to attend the jurying process, which will take place on February 7-8 at the Upper Arlington Municipal Building.

GCAC to Send Two Local Artists to Germany
