 Giorgio Morandi 1890-1964

Bologna - January 22nd - April 13th 2009
http://www.mambo-bologna.org

An exhibition dedicated to the vast works of one of the most important Italian artists of the 20th century. Giorgio Morandi started his work from 1910 and continued uninterrupted until 1964, with more than 1700 works now in our possession. Morandi had alternated with his work of paintings with works of engraving where he learned to distinguish talent from skill. For an artist that did not like to travel much, he was constantly able to communicate the language of poetry and his outlook on everyday life through his works.

  Beato Angelico rediscovered

Firenze - December 20th, 2008 - March 8th, 2009
www.polomuseale.firenze.it

The exhibition is intended to present to the public an important rediscovery and a significant acquisition for the Italian historic and artistic heritage. These are two, practically unknown, panel paintings portraying Dominican Saints by Beato Angelico, recently rediscovered in England and subsequently purchased by the Soprintendenza and by the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze. Beyond the great artistic significance, the rediscovery is also of great historic importance. Effectively, the paintings very probably originate from the pilasters of the altarpiece painted by the Angelico for the high altar of the church of San Marco in Florence, which was dismembered in the nineteenth century. Commissioned by Cosimo de’Medici, this work can be considered the first altarpiece of a Renaissance concept.

The present exhibition, conceived by the new prestigious WIELS contemporary art center in Brussels, will be the most important retrospective of Mike Kelley’s work to be held in Europe since 1997. It is also the first monographic exhibition of this important artist in Italy. Mike Kelley, (Detroit, MI, 1954, lives and works in Los Angeles) a leading key figure in the contemporary international art scene, is one of the most provocative West Coast artists. He has been active as a visual artist, performer and musician for over thirty years and has been extremely influential for younger generations of artists.
