LAUNCH OF NEW CRANE VILLAGE COMBINES QUALITY AND AUTHENTIC BARBADIAN CHARM

01-08-2009

Luxury resort expansion inspired by the heritage of a bygone Barbados

St. Philip, Barbados, January 08, 2009:  Overlooking the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean, The Crane Resort & Residences, will unveil the highly anticipated Crane Village beginning February 2009.  Inspired by the heritage architecture of an 18th century Barbadian town, the 55,000 square-foot Crane Village is expected to become the new heart of the resort community.

The first stage of opening will reveal The Village Town Hall, a 3,000 sq. ft Duty Free shopping centre and state-of-the-art conference facility.  The Town Hall shopping centre will feature superb Duty Free shopping at international jewelers Colombian Emeralds along with Cave Shepherd Group, resort wear at Dingolay, authentic Caribbean art and crafts at Tamarind Seed, resort keepsakes at Crane Signature Shop and a selection of fresh food, wine and convenience items at The General Store. The Town Hall meeting and function space will offer a selection of venues for conferences, receptions and private functions and accommodate up to 100 guests.

“The opening of The Village is a significant moment in The Crane’s 121-year history,” says Paul Doyle, owner of The Crane.  “For the first time, guests will have an expanded roster of outstanding entertainment, dining and shopping options. Every addition was carefully chosen to fit with the ambiance and sophistication of The Crane - to retain the resort’s unique culture while providing guests with the finest

modern conveniences.”

Among the many amenities visitors will enjoy at The Crane Village, the new reception and lounge area is designed with the friendly atmosphere that is synonymous with The Crane. Guests will also benefit from the variety of dining and entertainment options, such as D’Onofrio’s for Southern Italian fare, Pizza Terrace with al fresco dining, The Village Café for fresh bread and coffee, and Bar 1887 featuring Rum Shop Happy Hour with authentic Bajan Tapas. The Village will also include a private theatre and state-of-the-art gym and spa facility, which will overlook the legendary Crane beach and cliff pools. The facility will offer fast track fitness solutions, cardio and weight equipment and personalized spa treatment packages.

Guests strolling through the cobble stone streets will notice the grandeur of Barbadian design captured throughout The Village,  featuring elements of historical architecture, steep gable roofs, wooden shutters and ornate fretwork integrated with fine mahogany features, distinctive lime stonewalls and typical breezy verandahs. Surrounded by tropical landscaped gardens, The Village offers quiet corners for reading, daydreaming or people watching.

The Crane is closing in on the completion of its multi-million dollar renovation and expansion project. Accenting the existing serene surroundings of pond fountains and lush gardens, the resort has built two magnificently crafted pergolas that flank the property’s entrance. Two flood-lit tennis courts are now located North of Building 9 and a beach elevator provides an alternative to the 99 steps that descend to Crane Beach.  The resort is currently adding garden residence suites before the end of 2009, bringing its total room inventory to 220.
