GETTYSBURG TOWN GUIDES OFFER “WALK WITH LINCOLN” TOURS IN NOVEMBER

11-07-2007

Gettysburg, PA – Beginning November 1st  through November 19th, Gettysburg Licensed Town Guides are offering special guided walking tours called "Walk with Lincoln."  The tour in downtown Gettysburg highlights Lincoln's trip to Gettysburg and the legacy he left behind.

Town guides are based in the Historic Gettysburg Hotel, located at 1 Lincoln Square.  Tours are available daily from 10 am to 4 pm, and a fee is charged.  Group tours are available with advance reservations by calling 717-339-6161.  Off-season tours (November-March) are available by appointment with 48-hour notice.

A program of Main Street Gettysburg, the Licensed Town Guides have offered unique guided walking tours in downtown Gettysburg for three years.

“The tours tell the civilian side of the battle as well as engaging visitors’ interest in local businesses and attractions,” says Deb Adamik, Main Street Gettysburg’s Executive Director.  “Public response to these guided tours has been tremendous.  Thanks to this added attraction in the town, that opens the door to so many activities, we are well on our way to inspiring guests to stay longer and improve the local economy.”

Town Guides are licensed by Main Street Gettysburg and must successfully complete a rigorous process that includes written and oral exams.  The tours are based on historical research using diaries, letters, period photographs, and newspaper articles of the time to tell the story of the Gettysburg civilian during the battle and the months following.

The walking tours have been featured on Gettysburg College’s Civil War Institute’s virtual tour of Lincoln's Gettysburg at the website:  www.gettysburg.edu/civilwar/institute/walk_with_lincoln_in_gettysburg.  The tours have also been featured in the Washington Post and the AAA Travel Magazine.
