Kiawah Island Golf Resort to make dynamic changes to restaurant menu concepts in February 2009

01-06-2009

-         New concepts will bring a multitude of choices and price points

for resort, local and regional guests

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC - Kiawah Island Golf Resort today announced that, in its ongoing effort to provide guests with an unrivaled vacation experience, it would be introducing new restaurant concepts in three of its premier dining outlets and that it would more clearly define established concepts in each of the other outlets.  These changes are designed so that each of the resort's 12 dining outlets will have unique menu choices and price points.  The new concepts will be introduced in February 2009.

The three new restaurant concepts at the resort will include:

  • The fine-dining room at the resort's oceanfront hotel, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, will be renamed Ocean Room Prime.  It will be "Kiawah's Signature Steakhouse" with a menu specializing in exceptional hand-selected cuts of beef and chops as well as other signature dishes.
  • Tomasso at Turtle Point Clubhouse will be the new incarnation of the Turtle Point clubhouse's restaurant creating an authentic Italian gathering place specializing in classic cuisine from all regions of Italy.
  • The Atlantic Room at The Ocean Course Clubhouse will be "Kiawah's Premier Seafood Restaurant" featuring modern American twists on seasonal seafood selections.  The Atlantic Room is a proud member of the Sustainable Seafood initiative that insures the health of worldwide fisheries.

The other resort restaurants will enhance their menus to support their original dining concepts.  These will include a wide range of menu themes such as Carolina Lowcountry cuisine, casual clubhouse fare, a tropical poolside café, etc.

According to Roger Warren, President of Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the new concepts are the result of extensive industry research and a comprehensive guest survey conducted earlier this year.   "Five years after the opening of The Sanctuary, we felt that it was time to do a wide-ranging review of our entire food and beverage philosophy," explained Warren.  "We analyzed our outlet's pricing and menu diversity for the past five years for both the Sanctuary restaurants and the other dining outlets on the resort, we examined our local competitive set as well as the F&B operations of eight comparable resorts from across the country and, most importantly, we conducted a comprehensive survey of a cross section of resort guests who had visited in the past year.  What we learned was that our dining choices, over the years, had melded into similar menus and similar options.  What guests were looking for was variety.  We are confident that these concept changes will address our guests' wishes," said Warren.

In addition to a wider variety of restaurant themes, menu pricing will also be more clearly defined between the various outlets.  This will give the resort guest a better understanding of the cost associated with each restaurant.
