THE GREENBRIER CELEBRATES U.S. PRESIDENTS WITH AN INAUGURATION PACKAGE

01-06-2009

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV, January 6, 2009 – The renowned Greenbrier resort in West Virginia is honoring past, present and future U.S. Presidents by offering an Inauguration Package, January 15-21, 2009, to coincide with the Inauguration of President Barack Obama.  Guests who avail of this package will have the opportunity to learn about The Greenbrier’s esteemed history, tour the Presidential Suite and participate in lively discussions highlighting Presidential visits over the years.

Those who take part in the Inauguration Package will receive a wealth of Presidential knowledge and Greenbrier history, from information on which 26 U.S. Presidents have visited the resort to anecdotal facts relating to their visits.  Interested guests will also take part in a presentation at The Greenbrier’s Presidents’ Cottage Museum, where five pre-Civil War Presidents stayed.  Tours of the former U.S. Government Relocation Facility, more commonly known as the bunker, are also available.  This 112,000 square-foot facility which would have been used by Congress in the event of a national emergency was built during the Cold War and was kept secret from the public for 30 years.

The Greenbrier has been hosting top politicians since 1815, when James Monroe first visited while he was Secretary of State.  Monroe was followed by Martin Van Buren in 1838, who was the first sitting U.S. President to vacation at The Greenbrier.  To date, the most frequent presidential visitors have been John Tyler, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.

The Inauguration Package is being offered January 15-21, 2009, and includes breakfast, resort fee and taxes.  Rates start at $330 per night for single occupancy or $365 per night for double occupancy.  The bunker tour is available for $20 per adult or $10 per child ages 10-18. For more information on this offering and to make reservations, please visit www.greenbrier.com or call 800-453-4858.
