The Suite Life of Nobel Laureates at Grand Hotel Stockholm

11-27-2008

As the Nobel Prize ceremony approaches on December 10th, excitement takes over Stockholm as locals and visitors alike get ready to honor the brilliant men and women from all over the world for their achievements in chemistry, literature, medicine, physics, and physiology. Not everyone can discover the “mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics” like this year’s winner, Laureate Yoichiro Nambu, but now the life of a Nobel Prize Laureate can be experienced by all who book Grand Hôtel Stockholm’s “Noble Stay” package.

Since 1901 the Nobel Laureates have stayed at Grand Hôtel Stockholm, where regal accommodations and seamless service blend to become the leading hotel in Scandinavia as their hotel of choice. In honor of the Laureates, the hotel’s renowned Nobel Suite was created in the mid-1990’s, offering astounding views from the top floor and featuring antiques related to the Nobel Prize including paintings of Alfred Nobel himself.

A Day in the Life of a Nobel Laureate

Guests who book the “Noble Stay” package begin their day with a smorgasbord or a continental breakfast to fuel the brain for a day full of activity. A limousine and tour guide then escorts guests to Stockholm City Hall, home to the Nobel Prize banquet nearly every December since 1930. The private tour will provide a historical, architectural, and cultural point of view of the building.

Next stop is at the Nobel Museum in Old Town. Here visitors explore the brilliance of over 700 past Nobel Prize winners through their discoveries and developments. Lunch is served at Den Gyldene Freden, or The Golden Peace, a famous Swedish tavern opened since 1722. After lunch browse through Orrefors to purchase items from the Nobel crystal stemware supplier at their only European store.

Grand Hôtel Stockholm’s “Noble Stay” package is available through December 31, 2008, minimum two-nights stay. Rates begin at 12,165 SEK (approximately $1,515 USD) for double occupancy. Rates for the Nobel Suite are available upon request. Please note that black out dates apply.
