Raleigh, N.C. (Oct. 15, 2008) Vibrant color is on display this week in Waynesville and Highlands as well as Boone and Grandfather Mountain. Now is the perfect time to enjoy fall color as it blankets the western part of the state and creeps into the foothills and central region.

Fall Color Prediction/Summary
NC’s Fall Color Guy, Dr. Howard Neufeld, predicts fall colors will persist through the weekend at 3,000 to 4,000 feet and peak at lower elevations next weekend. Colors will continue to peak into late October and even early November at the lowest elevations. This week, maples, Virginia creeper, winged sumac and red and black oak are peaking with astonishing orange and scarlet-red hues in the in the Boone, Grandfather Mountain, Waynesville and Highlands areas. Fall Fishing Summary
After a couple of rainy days, sunny days and cool nights brought fall fishing in full force along the N.C. coast. King mackerel fishing is good around Cape Lookout and Morehead City and anglers are hooking mullet, spot and bluefish in Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo. Also, the Carolina/Kure Beach piers report reeling in spots and red and black drum, pompano and bluefish.
