Madrid's 25th Fall Festival Debuts in October

MORE THAN 160 PERFORMANCES OF MUSIC, DANCE, THEATRE, CIRCUS ARTS

Madrid, SPAIN, September 11, 2008 – From October 13 through November 16, Madrid will be celebrating the 25^th edition of its annual fall festival with over 166 performances of theater, music, dance and circus arts.  The 40 artistic companies in the festival hail from all over the world including Europe, the US, South America, Australia and Japan and will perform in venues in both central Madrid and its suburbs. 

            Dance is showcased in serious pieces performed by the contemporary Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal and in the zany antics of the Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo.  Concerts feature Nathalie Joly singing the Romanian classics of Maria Tanase, Josh Weller of the UK, performing pop-folk and the avant-garde and controversial American singer and pianist Diamanda Galas.  Though many of the theater performances are in Spanish, there is a range of works in other languages including English, French, German, Polish as well as multi-lingual productions.  Productions in English include “I went to the house but did not enter” by the Swiss company Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne and “The Monkey Trial” by the Belgian company TG Stan.  Among three circus performances is “Smaller, Poorer, Cheaper,” featuring three acrobats and one musician from Australia.  Not your typical circus act, the piece is a comedic parody, and not recommended for those under 13 years of age.
