Revolutionary War Encampment

08-27-2008

Ticonderoga, NY – Fort Ticonderoga, site of the first Americas victory during the revolutionary war will be hosting their annual Revolutionary War Encampment beginning on Friday, September 5th when approximately 500 reenactors will begin to gather on the grounds adjacent to the Fort.
In addition to British and Colonial soldiers, the reenactors portray 18th century life through the Native American and family perspective, giving you a 360 degree view of what life looked and felt like during the Revolutionary War.
Encampment begins Friday, September 5th as the 500 actors descend on the military grounds. Then on Saturday, September 6th and Sunday, September 7th reenactors will thrill the audience with an array of military demonstrations and drill, an officers' meeting detailing how the battle will play out, and a 2pm battle for America’s freedom. “Sutlers” will also be on site selling period ware.
Marci Hall, Director of Marketing and Communications finds this Encampment to be both educational and fun, “Fort Ticonderoga was the site of the first victory for the Americans during the Revolutionary War as Ethan Allen, Benedict Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys captured the Fort from the British. The land we reenact on was very important in the making of
America. The reenactment is a great opportunity to get out, enjoy the day, and take in some interesting important historical knowledge."
                Fort
Ticonderoga puts on annual encampments twice a year. In addition to the Revolutionary War Encampment in September you can also attend the French and Indian War Encampment in June. See www.fort-ticonderoga.org for more information.
