Bluegrass Festival, Antique Boat Show and

Annual Decoy & Gunning Show Lead Fall Fun

 

Ship Bottom, NJ, August 19, 2008– There’s going to be some rompin’ and stompin’ goin’ on in Southern Ocean County in September, as the 29th Annual Ocean County Bluegrass Festival, the 6th Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show and the 26th Annual Ocean County Decoy & Gunning Show lead a sensational series of festivals and events for the whole family.

 

The 29th Annual Ocean County Bluegrass Festival will bring down the house at the Albert Music Hall, in Waretown, Sunday, Sept. 7, from Noon to 5:00 p.m., featuring Linda & Bill Green; Heavy Traffic; Up & Running; The Last Whippoorwill Band; The Bennett Family; Mark Mitlos & the Raritan Valley Ramblers; Past Times; Parker & Edgerton; and Cindy & the Pour Boys.

 

Tuckerton Seaport, in Tuckerton, will be alive with excitement from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7, as the 6th Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show fills the working maritime village with classic wood and glass boat exhibitors, demonstrations, workshops, vendors, boat rides and boat building courses, fantastic food and music.

 

The 26th Annual Ocean County Decoy and Gunning Show takes place in Tuckerton on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This popular family festival at Tuckerton Seaport, the Tip Seaman County Park and the Pinelands Regional High School overflows with fun. There’s a huge arts and crafts show, decoy carving demonstrations, music and entertainment, lots of food, sneakbox and skiff regattas, midway rides, skeet shooting contests and more.

 

There also are free concerts at the Barnegat Municipal Dock on Monday, Sept. 1, featuring the jazz band “Angelo and Ricky,” and on Monday, Sept. 8, the pop music band “Hi-fives,” beginning at 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday night, Sept. 3, the Concert on the Green, at Bicentennial Park, in Beach Haven, will present the Garden State Philharmonic Brass Quintet, beginning at 7:30 p.m.  

 

For those interested in outdoor activities, there are Naturalist Ecological Tours on Saturdays at Cloverdale Farm County Park, in Barnegat, presented by the Ocean County Department of Parks & Recreation, with Saturday, Sept. 13, featuring a program on Jersey Cranberries. On Sundays there are special guided “Photography Walks” at the park, where avid shutterbugs can capture some spectacular fall foliage.

 

Every Saturday night, for country, folk, bluegrass and Down Jersey Pinelands music fans, the Albert Music Hall, in Waretown, presents an outstanding line-up from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Additional regularly scheduled activities taking place include Walking Tours of Historic Beach Haven, presented through mid-September by the Long Beach Island Museum on Tuesday and Friday mornings, at 10:00 a.m. 

 

The Surflight Theater, in Beach Haven, presents musicals and shows for all ages throughout September, beginning with the star-spangled musical “Swingtime Canteen” Sept. 3-14, followed by a musical portrayal of P.T. Barnum’s 45-year journey as the Greatest Showman on Earth in “Barnum” Sept. 17-28. The Surflight’s children’s theater series will feature “Winnie the Pooh” Sept. 4-7. 

 

There also is a full series of adult and children’s lectures, exhibits and hands-on demonstrations, many of them free of charge, covering a wide variety of subjects in the arts and sciences, presented several days every week at the LBI Foundation of the Arts & Sciences, in Loveladies. 

 

Those interested in history and culture will be fascinated by “Key Ingredients: America By Food,” a Smithsonian exhibit at Tuckerton Seaport, in Tuckerton, which runs from Sept. 6 through Oct. 19, providing insights into the connection between history, food and culture in America. Unshredded Nostalgia, in Barnegat, is presenting “Memories of Ocean County” through Sept. 15, portraying the region’s unique and diverse history through maps, deeds, posters and other memorabilia, along with “Gems of the Silent Screen” also through Sept. 15, an exhibit of nearly 40 rare and one-of-a-kind silent movie posters from 1915-1930.  

 

Other events include an Irish Festival in Ship Bottom and a Flea Market in Tuckerton Saturday, Sept. 6, and a “Pirates Day” for kids, in Barnegat Monday, Sept. 8, which concludes with a concert and fireworks display. There also is a borough-wide sidewalk sale in Ship Bottom and an Art Fair in Manahawkin Saturday, Sept. 13, and an Antique & Collectible Show at Viking Village in Barnegat Light Sunday, Sept. 14. Heritage Days, with historic reenactments and family fun takes place in Manahawkin Friday, Sept 19, and there will be a Beach Clean-up, hosted by the Alliance for a Living Ocean, in Beach Haven Saturday, Sept. 20.  An adult Triathlon and Duathlon for kids will be held in Beach Haven Sunday, Sept. 21, and the annual St. Francis Bazaar is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, in Brant Beach.
