THE MYRTLE BEACH AREA jump starts SUMMER FUN

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – May 15, 2008 – South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach area officially kicks off the summer season with the 57^th annual Sun Fun Festival, beginning the weekend of June 5-9 and lasting through August.  Attracting more than 300,000 visitors to the Myrtle Beach area each year, the Sun Fun Festival is the largest annual event of its kind in South Carolina. The kickoff weekend includes five days of live entertainment, celebrity meet and greets, arts and crafts vendors, pageants, sporting events, beach games, hot air balloon and boat rides, kids fair, contests and more:

§         57^th Anniversary Sun Fun Festival Kick-Off Ceremony

Sun Fun Festival officially kicks off summer on June 7^th with performances by Ruben Studdard, the Season 2 winner of American Idol, at 10am;  Ace Young of American Idol at 2pm; and Third Eye Blind at 7pm at the Main Stage, Lakeside in Grand Park at the former Air Force Base.  Free.

§         Celebrity Meet & Greet

Rub elbows with your favorite celebrities at Grand Park on the former Air Force Base on Saturday, June 7^th:

§         Ruben Studdard of American Idol (Season 2): Tent #1 from 10am to 1pm

§         Cody Linley of Hannah Montana: Tent #2 from 11am to 2pm

§         Eric Braeden of The Young and the Restless: Tent #3 from 12pm to 3pm

§         Ace Young of American Idol (Season 5): Tent #1 from 1pm to 4pm

§         Demi Lovato of Disney’s movie, Camp Rock: Tent #2 from 2pm to 5pm

§         30^th Annual Sun Fun Beach Run

§         11^th Annual Sea Doo Surf & Turf Jet Ski Racing Championship

As the American Power Boat Association’s first east coast stop on their national tour, Myrtle Beach’s Springmaid Beach Resort is the location of the ultra-exciting personal watercraft race on June 7^th and 8^th.  Free to spectators.
