Martin County Marks the Spot for ‘Summer Treasures’

Treasure Coast summer promotion full of interactive treasure hunts, hidden treasure chests, and a modern-day geocaching adventure.

STUART, FL (April 30, 2008) The Martin County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will launch a three-month summer promotion, named ‘Summer Treasures’, beginning in June. The campaign promotes the "riches" of Martin County, from its sunken Spanish Galleons offshore to its seaside treasures (beach escapes, sailing, fishing, diving, snorkeling, boating and more), to inland treasures, cityscapes, cultural treasures, parks and preserves, and family activities and events. It also includes three treasure hunt adventures, which will range from a good old-fashioned treasure hunt to strategically hidden treasure chests across the county, and a modern-day high-tech treasure hunt using global positioning satellite systems (official name: geocaching). Participants who 'discover' a minimum number of treasures in any of the treasure hunts will be eligible to win prizes and giveaways.

All summer long an interactive treasure hunt, ‘X Marks the Spot,’ will take visiting treasure hunters from coast to coast (Atlantic Ocean to Lake Okeechobee). Armed with a treasure map and a list of clues, participants will visit points of historic interest or importance, landmarks, as well as area attractions. Those who identify the treasure clues will be rewarded with promotional prizes as well as a chance to win the Summer Treasures Grand Prize.

During the month of July, experience the thrill of finding unexpected treasure. Every day four treasure chests will be hidden throughout Martin County. Each treasure chest will contain promotional prizes as well as a chance to win the Summer Treasures Grand Prize.

On Saturday, July 26, a one-day ‘Summer Treasures Geocaching Quest’ will invite participants to use their personal global positioning satellite units along with a themed Treasure Map to find waypoints “hidden” throughout Historic Downtown Stuart. Treasure seekers who locate at least five waypoints qualify for a chance to win the Summer Treasures Grand Prize. For each waypoint discovered after the first five, contestants will receive additional chances to win the prize. Geocaching, or using GPS devices to locate all manner of hidden prizes, trinkets or other items, is gaining popularity around the world as more people embrace the technology.

“This is the first known summer promotion like this on the Treasure Coast,” said Terri Monaghan, the Martin County Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director. “We hope this three month long promotion helps our sum
