It gives us great pleasure to present you with some of the most stunningly beautiful and architecturally interesting chateaux in the Western region of France. Let us begin our exploration in Normandy.

NORMANDY: The Normandy region of France combines a 360-mile dramatic coastline, including the World War II landing beaches, with a verdant interior of lush farmland, bustling market towns, and historic landmarks such as the cities of Caen, Bayeux and Rouen.

In this region, we recommend the following hotels from the Chateaux & Hotels Collection:

La Mère Poulard in Mont St.Michel

Located inside the soaring walls of Mont Saint-Michel, La Mere Poulard is the ideal place to discover this area's history and enjoy spectacular views of the bay. This historic property features 100 guestrooms full of charm, each individually decorated, and offering the most modern facilities. Some rooms overlook the Bay of Mont Saint Michel with an unforgettable view of the world's largest tides. Rates from 130 Euros.

Le Château de Sully in Bayeux

Between Bayeux and the Normandy landing beaches, this 18th century château is a shining example of traditional French hospitality.  A leisurely stroll through the 7 acre grounds may lead you to discover the 16th century dovecote and a chapel with listed frescoes. Pure relaxation is the theme of this delightful chateau; take a dip in the glass house enclosed swimming pool,  take in a game of tennis and wrap up the day with dinner at their lovely restaurant featuring regional cuisine and extraordinarily fresh fish dishes. Rates from 150 Euros.

Le Château La Cheneviere in Port en Bessin

Set close to Omaha Beach and the historic town of Bayeux, Port en Bessin conceals a treasure that lies at the end of a long drive. Impeccable lawns, ancient trees and a charmingly old-fashioned rose garden - arriving on the estate is like strolling onto the lands of an English lord who fell under the spell of the Calvados region. The manor appears at last, a dignified Norman edifice from the 18th century. Add to that an opulent interior, spacious, elegant bedrooms, a generous and distinguished cuisine based on delicious local produce, faultless service, a heated outdoor pool, a splendid terrace, and the picture is complete. Château la Chenevière has 17 rooms and 12 suites. Rates from 240 Euros.

BRITTANY: One of France's most rugged regions, Brittany is a fascinating mix of spectacular coastline, ancient towns, magical islands and inland woods. A Celtic duchy for more than one thousand years before its annexation to France in 1532, it is a land rich in culture, tradition and history.

Le Domaine de Kerbastic in Guidel

An outstanding estate dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries stretches out in the middle of a magnificent park on the outskirts of Guidel. The rooms are large and inviting with lounges that ensure complete relaxation. The estate features period furniture and momentos belonging to the Polignac family, one of the oldest in France. Despite this historic setting, the hotel provides the most up-to-date services and amenities. Rates from 95 Euros

La Mare aux Oiseaux in La Baule

Located on an island and accessible by ferry, this wonderfully charming inn was recently completely renovated and features 11 new rooms, three of which are in a cabin suspended over the marshy waters.  The rooms are delightful (all with their own bathrooms) and have a country feel with much use of wood and fine linens. At La Mare aux Oiseaux's restaurant, the young chef Eric Guerin, who has worked at many prestigious restaurants, prepares an inventive and gastronomic cuisine with typical products from the countryside. Rates from 120 Euros.

AQUITAINE: Located in the south-west, this is the largest région of France. It has a long, straight coast which stretches 200km from the mouth of the Gironde estuary down to the Spanish border. Along this border there are two main resort areas, Biarritz in the south and Arcachon, with its grand villas, to the north. The Pyrenees mountain range steadily begins to rise in the Pyrénées Atlantiques, the southern most part of Aquitaine. The mountain foothills are a lush green land where the houses gradually become chalet in style.

Château de Meyre in Avensan

In beautiful Château Meyre, the rooms have borrowed their names from mythology. The Ceridwen suite, named after Celtic goddess, provides a feeling of space and luxury. Its private
