Hollyhock, Cortez Island Non-Violence Workshop - Peace Begins With Words

04-24-2008

Passionate Nonviolent Communication Builds Relationships

Cortes Island, BC – In a world where turmoil and violence can plague our families, schools and nations, what better way to initiate change than by communicating with clarity and kindness in our closest relationships? Rachelle Lamb, of Victoria, is presenting a Nonviolent Communication Workshop at Hollyhock on Cortes Island, May 23 to 28, 2008.

Unfortunately, we don’t have to look too far from home or too long ago to find extreme examples of family relationships that have deteriorated to violence and murder. According to Statistics Canada in 2006, 7% of men and 8% of women reported being attacked by their partners. Many more people verbally and emotionally abuse their closest family members.

“Imagine interacting with others in a way that allows everyone’s needs to be equally valued,” says Marshall B. Rosenberg, founder of the Center for Nonviolent Communication. “Imagine creating organizations and life-serving systems responsive to our needs and the needs of our environment.”

This five-day program includes presentations, written exercises, small group work and role playing to teach effective tools for genuine expression, empathic listening and self-compassion. Effective, respectful communication can help transform all types of relationships, including personal, familial, and professional. Tuition for the program is $525.00. Meals and accommodation at Hollyhock are extra.

Rachelle Lamb is one of only a select few teachers sanctioned by Marshall Rosenberg. She is an author, speaker and president of Mindful Communications and has shown thousands how to hear and express universal human needs in a revealing and compassionate way using the Nonviolent Communication process.
