Interactive Couples’ Massages, Sun-Soaked Crystal Facials and Fresh Wasabi Treatments Invigorate New Spa Menu

Scottsdale, Ariz. (April 16, 2008) – An intimate and inspiring retreat, Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain’s (Scottsdale, Ariz.) award-winning Sanctuary Spa has introduced a new menu of distinctive services.  Blending the best practices of the ancient and modern worlds, Sanctuary Spa’s new treatments and experiences are designed to both invigorate and restore, ultimately cosseting guests from the outside world, as Sanctuary’s name suggests.

Named the 2008 “Most Excellent Spa Hotel” by Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence, Sanctuary’s spa menu redesign expertly pairs new, innovative services with long-time favorites of the Asian-inspired retreat.  Additions to the revitalized menu range from interactive couples massages to stimulating body treatments featuring espresso and fresh wasabi.  New highlights include:

Sanctuary Luxury Facial: Based on the healing art of stone therapy, precious crystals are re-energized in the Arizona sun and used during an invigorating facial massage that enhances circulation, firming and vitality in the skin.  To relieve tension, the experience includes a relaxing Green Tea Hand Treatment featuring an antioxidant-rich green tea and fresh wasabi hand mask.  Guests also enjoy a complementing Madara Foot Treatment that features a fresh wasabi foot mask and restoring Peppermint and Tea Tree foot balm.  90 minutes/$245.  The hand and foot treatments are also individually available as an enhancement to other spa services.  $30.

Reflexology Facial Enhancement: To rebalance the body during any facial treatment, guests may incorporate reflexology, which uses specialized techniques to stimulate the flow of energy in guests’ feet, promoting increased relaxation.  30 minutes/$90; 60 minutes/$150.

Massage 101: The interactive treatment introduces couples to classic massage techniques, offering an engaging spa experience.  While guests enjoy Sanctuary’s romantic Couple’s Suite or outdoor stone-walled Sanctum treatment space, a therapist demonstrates various massage methodologies for couples to indulge and master at home. 60 minutes/$150; 90 minutes/$210.

In Harmony Massage: Two therapists work in tandem during this carefully choreographed massage that utilizes Swedish techniques and long, continuous strokes, offering guests a profoundly renewing experience. 60 minutes/$150; 90 minutes/$210.

Sanctuary Signature Body Ritual: This signature treatment features fresh coconut blended with fragrant jasmine, vetiver and gentle buffing grains to hydrate, soothe and polish dull skin.  The ritual concludes with a luxurious Crème de la Crème lotion.  60 minutes/$150; 90 minutes with full-body massage/$210.

Espresso Mud Treatment: A fragrant, cleansing exfoliation using certified organic coffee beans, Japanese honeysuckle, black clay and volcanic pumice is followed by a detoxifying, warming wrap and a rich, soothing body balm to complete the experience.  60 minutes/$150; 90 minutes with full-body massage/$210.

Rosemary Citron Salt Scrub: Mineral-rich sea salt infused with rosemary, lemon and mint provides an invigorating exfoliation, finished with an ultra-hydrating Shea butter lotion infused with aloe vera and sweet orange.  60 minutes/$150; 90 minutes with full-body massage/$210.

Vinasanti In-Room Rituals: For guests that wish to be pampered in the privacy of their own casita, an hour-long in-room massage is followed by a 30-minute scrub, with choice of four restoring scents: Cinnamon & Clove (increases circulation and detoxifies the skin), Mangosteen & Papaya (nourishes skin and aids digestion), Lemongrass & Kaffir Lime (soothes tired muscles and moisturizes skin) or Vanilla & Coconut (increases metabolism and relaxes the mind).  A cooling shower, tea service and perfectly prepared bath with complementing scent complete the ritual.  110 minutes/$295.

Sanctuary’s patrons will find classic favorites remain a part of the Sanctuary Spa experience, including – but not limited to – the Sanctuary Stone Massage; Watsu aquatic services; Asian-inspired treatments including Table Thai Massage and Luk Pra Kope; the Sanctuary Jewel Facial; personal consultations such as Guided Imagery Meditation, Labyrinth Walking Meditation, and Astrology; and fitness and wellness programs including In-Room Training, and guided Hiking and Bike Tours.  Sanctuary Spa also offers Satori, its destination spa program named for the Japanese word for “enlightenment,” which involves a five-day, four-night retreat led by spa guru Billie Jo.  Beyond its extensive menu of services, the Sanctuary Spa offers a salon, a 25-yard lap pool and classes in the state-of-the-art fitness center and movement studio.
