Featuring the Whistler Art Workshops on the Lake

WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, April, 16, 2008 – Pick up a paint brush and uncover your inner artist with a getaway to the Nita Lake Lodge’s Artist’s Getaway package in Whistler. In partnership with the Whistler Arts Council’s Whistler Art Workshops on the Lake series, the Nita Lake Lodge will be offering budding artists the opportunity to join in exclusive workshops with sought-after B.C. artists including Lori Goldberg and Janice Robertson. Set in the most picturesque of settings, the Artist’s Getaway package, priced starting at $468 USD per person based on double occupancy, is available on dates throughout July and August and includes three nights of accommodation, three full days of art instruction, and a take-away lunch each day.

Drawing creative inspiration from its lake side setting at the rustic Alta Lake Station House just steps from the Nita Lake Lodge, artists of all levels are invited to participate in hand-on instruction from the talented artists in a variety of mediums including acrylic, watercolour and sketching. The program includes:

July 2 – 4 – Acrylic Painting: Nature and Self – Lori Goldberg

Lori Goldberg, a Vancouver-based artist and instructor at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, takes students on an inspiring workshop that will explore techniques and systems in painting that will bring more ease in recording one’s observation of the everyday world, and learning to connect with the inner creative voice.

August 6 – 8 – Acrylic Painting: Beginner Acrylics – Janice Robertson

Well-known award-winning artist Janice Robertson will teach some basic techniques in painting acrylics on canvas and is suitable for students at the beginner to intermediate level. Through demonstrations and one on one instruction, students will be introduced to underpainting, blocking in, opaque versus transparent colour, negative and positive painting, and glazing.

August 13 – 15 – Watercolour: Landscapes of the Coastal Mountain Range – Grant Fuller

Grant Fuller, a successful B.C.-based artist who has been teaching painting since 1985, will demonstrate in an easy "step by step" method emphasizing mood and painting methods, while illustrating solid drawing techniques.


 

August 22 – 24 – The Effective Use of Light in Composition and Design – Richard S. McDiarmid

An accomplished artist whose art is found in corporate and private collections throughout the world, Richard class will focus on the inspiration and ideas for the painting through preliminary studies before proceeding with the finished work. Attention will be given to the composition and design of major elements in the painting, as well as determining colour dominance for the image and selection of appropriate palette.
