Experiences Far From the Mainstream

Been-Seen.com Created After Visitors to Mexico’s Verana Resort
Started Exchanging Notes on Other Remote Places to Visit

YELAPA, Mexico  (March 10, 2008) – They came by plane, boat and mule to this spectacularly remote hillside oasis 30 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta and liked what they saw.  Since the jungle resort numbered just eight private guesthouses, lasting friendships were made – and it wasn’t long before fellow travelers were sharing their undiscovered, design-focused destination and travel secrets with each other long after they returned home.

And an authentic new travel Web site and blog were born.

Such is the story behind www.been-seen.com, a wholly organic new travel Web and blog site originally inspired by visitors to the remote Verana resort in Yelapa, Mexico, who decided to stay in touch after their stay to exchange recommendations on other unique travel destinations far from the mainstream.  Guided by its “Travel by Design” mission, the site has become a popular online insiders’ address book for like-minded travelers seeking unusual places characterized by an attention to design.

“Been-seen is for anyone who picks their travel experiences from a creative and visually artistic point of view,” explained Heinz Legler, who created the Verana resort with his wife, Veronique Lievre.  “Our growing contributors roam the world in search of destinations remote and beautiful, created with unusually imaginative vision and simple luxury.

The result is a user-suggested online compilation of unusual travel places and people linked by a common aesthetic – whether unexpected style, outstanding architecture, ephemeral designs or a commitment to beauty in the smallest detail.”
To keep it simple, design-oriented destinations, experiences, products, reader submissions and inside information on www.been-seen.com are grouped under three broad categories:
