04-05-2008

One of Australia’s Most Indulgent Food and Wine Events to be Held June 21-23, 2008

NEW YORK, April 4, 2008 - The multi-award winning Voyages Cradle Mountain Lodge is once again set to host one of Australia’s best food and wine experiences, Tastings at the Top, June 21 to 23.

Set, against the backdrop of Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania, Tastings at the Top is a gourmet extravaganza for food and wine lovers, hosted by the industry’s leading wine consultant Peter Bourne, aka ‘The Wine Man’, and food consultant Helen Waterworth.

Now in its 14th consecutive year, the event has become synonymous with Tasmania’s reputation as a gastronomic haven. Guests seeking the very best of Tasmanian food and wine will not be disappointed with the event boasting fresh produce markets, cooking demonstrations, tastings and delectable banquets of Tasmanian produce.

Renowned amongst wine professionals and enthusiasts as ‘The Wine Man’, Peter Bourne will present a tasting of Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and some more experimental red varieties.

Providores displaying their goods this year include boutique cheese producers Ashgrove Cheeses and Bruny Island Cheese Company; sauces and conserves producer the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company, Petuna, Tasmania’s largest multi-species seafood company, plus Ashbolt Elderberry, producers of Tasmania’s award-winning Ashbolt Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Tasmania’s leading wine producers will also be on hand to help cleanse the palate, with Bay of Fires Wines, Tamar Ridge, Pirie South Wines, Delamere and Taltarni just a few vineyards that will be available to taste and buy.

Guests will also have time to explore the stunning countryside surrounding Cradle Mountain Lodge, with activities including fly-fishing tutorials in pristine mountain streams, hiking and indulgent therapies at the Waldheim Alpine Spa – all designed to build up a healthy appetite.

“When you combine the best of Tasmanian produce with top quality wines and such a spectacular setting, it is easy to see why Tastings at the Top has become such a popular event,” said Cradle Mountain Lodge General Manager, Leigh Reid.

Three-night (minimum stay) packages for Tastings at the Top start from AUD$1,405 (approximately USD$ 1285) per person twin share in a Pencil Pine Cabin. The price includes daily full buffet breakfast, Sunday and Monday lunches, all gala food and wine dinners, scheduled events, workshops and activities, as well as a welcome pack and drinks.

Tastings at the Top is supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania.
