SAN DIEGO'S 2ND ANNUAL CALIFORNIA WINE FESTIVAL AT THE WATERFRONT MANCHESTER GRAND HYATT SAN DIEGO

04-01-2008

SAN DIEGO WATERFRONT – The 2008 San Diego stop of the California Wine Festival is titled “Reds, Whites and Blues by the Bay” and will be staged April 11-12 at the waterfront Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego and in the adjacent beautiful bayfront Embarcadero Marina Park North. To celebrate the event, the waterfront Hyatt is offering a “Wine Festival Package” that includes two nights accommodation in a VIP Suite with incredible views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean for Friday April 11 and Saturday April 12, the Sommelier’s choice champagne in the suite upon arrival, two-for-one spa treatment voucher for a 50-minute treatment, two VIP tickets to the California Wine Festival and breakfast for two in Lael’s restaurant on Saturday or Sunday. The cost is $1,500 per room based on double occupancy. Package prices do not include tax and are based on availability and single or double occupancy, food and beverage credits are for package dates only.

The California Wine Festival attracts wineries from around the world and dozens of winemakers from every major California appellation like Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Santa Barbara and, of course, nearby Temecula Valley.

On Friday night, April 11, the exclusive “Sunset Reserve and Rare Wine Tasting” event will be held outdoors on the Seaport Plaza of the elegant Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, this year’s official host hotel. This event will feature stars of the wine industry pouring their finest vintage wines, paired with hot and cold gourmet appetizers, cheeses and other great food. Also present will be celebrity impersonators in the guise of Jack Nicholson, Marilyn Monroe and Rodney Dangerfield. They will mingle and chat with all in attendance and assist with a live auction to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of San Diego. Ten dollars from every ticket sold ($20 from VIP Weekend Pass tickets) and 100% of the net proceeds from the auction will go toward helping to make wishes come true for deserving children with life-threatening medical conditions.

On Saturday, April 12, from noon to 4 p.m., the festival will attract thousands of wine lovers to San Diego’s beautiful bayfront Embarcadero Marina Park North to celebrate fine wine and food, sampling from 300+ premium California wines, regional craft brews and delicious local gourmet Foods. After the festival, an hour long concert will be performed by the Grams, winners of the San Diego Music Awards “Best Americana Group” category.

Prior to the concert, festival goers will participate in a lively auction and bid for exotic oversized bottles of rare wines, luxury vacations, impossible-to-obtain “Chef’s Table” dinner parties inside the kitchens of some of San Diego’s most exclusive restaurants, pro sports tickets, private winemaker dinners and many more luxury and lifestyle items!

Event-only ticket prices range from $100 in advance to $125 at the door for the Friday night event and $75 in advance and $85 at the door for the Saturday event. A VIP Weekend Pass is $145 (Value: $210) with advance sales only and limited to 700 due to the rarity of the wines. It guarantees admission into the Friday evening Rare Wine Tasting and the Saturday afternoon Festival, along with privileges like VIP Pavilion admission, special auction and concert seating and a 1-hour “VIP preview” tasting at the Saturday Festival. General admission, Rare Wine Event and VIP Weekend Pass tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.californiawinefestival.com.
