LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF. - (March 27, 2008) - Summer at the beach has never been better, with a new calendar of events for everyone in the family at Montage Laguna Beach.

WHAT: The oceanfront resort has introduced a number of entertaining options for guests of all ages that capitalize on its stunning location and artful commitment to innovative fun. These include a new landscape painting workshop for those 10 and older, nightly supervised activities for children ages 5 to 12, and half-day tutorials in contemporary social skills, including cell phone and Internet etiquette, for those ages 5 to 17.

WHY: Because a family vacation should provide memorable experiences for everyone in the family.

HOW: A variety of interactive experiences are offered through Labor Day.

The Art of Plein Air Painting
Join award-winning impressionist painter Cynthia Britain in the resort's newest weekly workshop: The Art of Plein Air Painting. This outdoor workshop celebrates the heritage of the landscape painters who founded this vibrant arts community. Britain, whose works are among the collections of the Laguna Art Museum, Orange County Museum of Art and San Diego Museum of Art, will offer the workshop each Sunday through August 31 for those ages 10 and older. Each workshop includes:
  • Lessons in how to capture on canvas the breathtaking coastline views of the Laguna Beach bluffs
  • Personal attention from one of Laguna Beach's most acclaimed outdoor artists, who will show you how to see nature's play of light and shadows in an entirely new way
  • All necessary materials to create a masterpiece that you can then take home as a memorable keepsake
  • Sundays, 1-4 p.m., through August 31; comfortable footwear recommended
  • $35 per participant; complimentary to full-day Paintbox children's club participants ages 10-12; advance reservations required for guests and area residents, as space is limited

Kids Nights Out
Every weekend night from Memorial Day until July 4, and nightly from July 4 through Labor Day, children can enjoy their own summer evening of Kids Night Out (KNO) dining and activities as part of Paintbox, the resort's exclusive club for children ages 5-12:
  • Fridays will feature a rotating calendar of fun, including Paintbox Idol for a night of karaoke, Paintbox Luau Party filled with pool games and a hula hoop contest, and Paintbox Pajama Party, featuring the taste bud challenge, cookie baking and pillow case decorating
  • Saturdays have been designated as Saturday Sundae Nights, with the chance to get creative with all things ice cream, followed by a featured film
  • Each KNO evening includes special treats, supervised games, crafts and activities from 6 to 10 p.m., $50 per child, advance reservation requested, 949-715-6005


Holiday Weekends
Montage Laguna Beach will make it a summer holiday weekend to remember for the entire family, with an exciting Paintbox calendar of events to keep children engaged and entertained:
  • Memorial Day Weekend: From May 23 - 26, kick off summer in fun style with the launch of the new Friday Paintbox Luau Party and Saturday Sundae Nights Kids Nights Out activities, the Art of Tie Dye and Super Sand Sculpture Contests on Saturday, and The Art of Plein Art Painting on Sunday for those 10 and older.
  • July 4 Weekend: From July 3 - 6, enjoy a star spangled time at an array of complimentary activities for children and their parents, including Let the Games Begin water balloon toss, sack races and more; Patriotic Crafts, Caricature Artist and Ocean In Motion. For additional fees, children may thrill to a Thursday night Paintbox Luau, a Friday Night with Bubble Show and Saturday Night with Stars & Stripes Scavenger Hunt and "Drive-In" movies.
  • Labor Day Weekend: From August 29 - September 1, celebrate a farewell to summer with a series of special Kids Nights Out. Friday is Paintbox Idol, Saturday features a Back to School Party and, on Sunday, savor the last Kids Night Out of the season. The weekend also offers the last Sunday session of The Art of Plein Air Painting with artist Cynthia Britain.

The Art of Etiquette
Children and teens ages 5 to 17 can update their social skills in an interactive half-day session held one Sunday per month with Kim Maxwell, Laguna Beach's own "Etiquette Lady." This four-part contemporary Art of Etiquette program will cover:
  • Day-to-day manners
  • Common courtesies for in-person, cell phone and Internet communication
  • American and European table manners at home and in restaurants
  • Then put all of these skills into practice at a four-course tutorial luncheon
  • Available 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on June 29, July 20, August 17 and September 14
  • Area residents may make dining and/or spa treatment reservations while their children attend the workshop

Montage Mini Yoga
Montage Laguna Beach has developed a fun and healthy outdoor activity that is complimentary for children and teens ages 3 to 15. Designed by Wellness Manager David-Dorian Ross to introduce younger guests to the joys and benefits of yoga and encourage them to become stronger and more flexible, the one-hour sessions:
  • Are offered on the manicured lawns every Thursday and Saturday for two different age groups: ages 3-9 (9:30 a.m.) and ages 10-15 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Will inspire participants to turn their bodies into animals (like the dog, cobra or eagle), become one with nature (like the mountain or the tree) or even a mighty warrior
