Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts Launches New Property in China

03-27-2008

Sanya Resort Brings New Level of Seclusion to China’s South Sea Island

Hainan Island, China, March 2008 – Singapore-based Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts will soon open the doors of its new sub-tropical hideaway – the Banyan Tree Sanya Resort and Spa – on China’s Hainan Island. The resort will be the first all-pool villa resort in China and offer guests a lavish escape from urban sprawl.

Scheduled for a soft opening in April 2008, the exclusive Banyan Tree Sanya, located at Luhuitou Bay, on the southern coast of Hainan Island, has 49 secluded pool villas set amidst a sculpted tropical lagoon. The resort’s designs incorporate traditional Chinese details and plays off the area’s lush landscape. With its luxurious accommodations and indigenous designs, Sanya will complement the hotel group’s two highly-acclaimed resorts in China’s Yunnan province – Banyan Tree Lijiang and Banyan Tree Ringha.

The new resort will offer guests a variety of amenities, including the Banyan Tree Spa and hydrotherapy complex, signature dining outlets, and extensive conference facilities. A highlight of the resort is the two Presidential Villa Complexes. Unprecedented in both scale and luxury, these will accommodate heads of state and their entourages, and cater to groups of up to 50 within each private compound.

Driven by Design

Designed entirely by Banyan Tree’s in-house architectural division – Architrave Design and Planning – Banyan Tree Sanya is comprised of 21 pool villas, 16 deluxe pool villas, seven spa pool villas, five two-bedroom pool villas, and the two palatial Presidential Complexes.

The spacious and contemporary pool villas are constructed from local red clay-tiled roofs and black slate-clad walls, combining delightful Chinese details with distinctive tropical accents. The grounds are fringed by palm trees and lotus ponds. Impressive lawns decorate the courtyard area, along with outdoor showers and private jet-pools.

The two adjacent Presidential Complexes house two identical Presidential Villas. Both Presidential Villas offer two king-sized bedrooms, four adjacent bedrooms with twin beds, a reception room, dining room, family room, theater, games room, private spa suite and gym. The Villas’ swimming pools measure more than 3,200 square feet, accompanied by an outdoor sunken pavilion and heated jet-pool.

Within the two Presidential Complexes are living quarters for an entourage of assistants and service people, with a capacity of 30-40. Both Presidential Villa Complexes offer comprehensive 24-hour security and valet services.

History Behind Hainan Island

Only 20 years ago, Hainan Island was only known its palm-fringed beaches, seafood and colorful aboriginal tribes such as the Li minority. Set apart by its beautiful beaches, a climate described as “the endless summer,” and the best air quality in China, Hainan Island quickly grew to become a famous tourism hub. Several outlying islands in the vicinity of the main island are perfect for pleasant day trips, diving excursions, and spectacular photography, with a setting that brings together the islands’ white sands, turquoise seas, azure blue skies and verdant hills.

Banyan Tree Sanya room rates start at US $1,550++ per villa per night. The Presidential Villa Complexes start at US$19,700++ per night.
