Plan a Weekend Escape Around a Variety of Festivals & Events

 

            SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Spring blossoms in San Luis Obispo County with a full slate of music festivals, art shows, wine and food festivals, car shows, and special events to satisfy diverse tastes and interests.  Following are just some of the events that would make a nice addition to anyone’s vacation itinerary.

 

March 1 – May 30 – HEARST CASTLE EVENING TOUR.  On most Friday and Saturday evenings, from Saturday, March 1 through Friday, May 30, Hearst Castle® will feature the Living History Program that emphasizes the 1930’s heyday era of this great estate.  Docents in elegant vintage clothing will recreate the social life of Mr. Hearst’s guests, lounging by the magnificent Neptune Pool or playing cards in the Assembly Room.  Other docents portray household staff attending to the needs of Mr. Hearst’s guests.  Evening Tour prices are $30 for adults and $15 for youth ages 6 through 17.  Contact:  Hearst Castle®, (800) 444-4445, www.HearstCastle.com

March 7-16 – 14TH ANNUAL SAN LUIS OBISPO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL.  The 10-day festival will feature quality independent films from more than 12 countries, special events, filmmaking panels, and parties.  Actor Keith Carradine will be the special guest for the opening night festivities at the Santa Margarita Ranch that will include a twilight train ride on the ranch’s historic narrow-gauge train, a reception and a screening of the 1973 movie, Emperor of the North.  Other highlights of the film festival include the popular Surf Night in SLO, King Vidor Career Achievement Award, Western Night in Paso, a sing-along version of Hairspray, and the Hollywood and Vines series, which will pair classic films with fine wines from San Luis Obispo County.  Contact:  San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, (805) 546-3456, www.slofilmfest.org.

 

March 14-16 – 16TH ANNUAL PASO ROBLES ZINFANDEL FESTIVAL.  More than 90 wineries will host an array of special events throughout Paso Robles Wine Country during the three-day festival.  Winemaker dinners, food pairings, seminars, open houses, and special tastings are scheduled.  The marquee event will occur on Saturday, March 15 at the Paso Robles Event Center and feature a live auction and a Zinfandel Grand Tasting with silent auction.  Contact:  Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance, 1-800-549-9463, www.pasowine.com.

 

April 11-13 – 18TH ANNUAL CATTLEMEN’S WESTERN ART SHOW & SALE, PASO ROBLES.  Fifty artists from throughout the country are expected to exhibit and sell their authentic and unique western art at this annual show presented by the San Luis Obispo County Cattlemen’s Association.  The three-day show and sale will take place at the California Mid-State Fairgrounds in Paso Robles.  Artist Reception and Preview Sale on Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with public sale scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  Contact: Cattlemen’s Western Art Show, (805) 238-4207, www.CattlemensWesternArtShow.com.  

 

April 19 – CHILI COOK-OFF & CLASSIC CAR SHOW, CAMBRIA.   More than 70 classic and vintage cars on display, plus hot chili to be sampled and voted on.  Music, prizes, food, and a variety of beers equal great fun for everyone.  Festivities take place at the Pinedorado Grounds and Veterans Memorial Hall in Cambria.  Contact:  Cambria Chamber of Commerce, (805) 927-3624, www.cambriachamber.org.

April 26 – MORRO BAY KITE FESTIVAL.  Morro Bay’s second annual Kite Festival will feature colorful kites filling the sky, climbing and diving with the ocean breezes.  Fun for the whole family, the festival will take place in Tidelands Park, home of the popular pirate ship.  Admission is FREE.  Contact:  Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce, (805) 772-4467, www.morrobay.org.

May 1-4 – ROLL OUT THE BARRELS WEEKEND, SAN LUIS OBISPO.  Festivities will kick-off with Barrels in the Plaza – a wine and food tasting in Mission Plaza, featuring wine tasting straight from the barrel.[Back to Press Releases Main]
