Race into Fun in the Mid-Atlantic Region

(U.S. Mid-Atlantic Region, January 28, 2014Visitors to the Mid-Atlantic region can choose from foot-powered, four-wheel drive, or outboard engines to get their heartbeats racing. Races, marathons and competitions occur off-road, on city streets and on our rivers and bays. Come test your endurance or cheer on another. Either way, you are sure to finish your trip with a smile upon your face.

Delaware

Marathon in May attracts runners from all fifty states and many foreign countries.  This certified 26.2 mile marathon is both challenging and scenic.  The course consists of two half marathon loops which take runners from the Riverfront through some of Wilmington's most charming neighborhoods before returning to the Riverfront. Greater Wilmington Convention &Visitors Bureau,  VisitWilmingtonDE.com

 Maryland

Garrett County and The Adventure Sports Center International, a recirculating whitewater course located high atop Marsh Mountain, will host the 2014 International Canoe Federation's 2014 Canoe Slalom World Championships from September 16-21, 2014. This Olympic level event will bring competitors and spectators from around the world to Maryland. Maryland Office of Tourism, visitmaryland.org

 

Kinetic sculptures are amphibious, human-powered works of art custom-built for the race. Each May, the American Visionary Art Museum hosts the East Coast Kinetic Sculpture Race Championship on the shore of Baltimore's Harbor. The race covers 14 miles - mostly on pavement, but including a trip into the Chesapeake Bay. Visit Baltimore, , Baltimore.org

  

Thrill at the spectacle of offshore racing Sept. 13-14, 2014, at the Solomons Offshore Grand Prix!  See boats in the dry pits, meet drivers and throttlemen, get autographs and take photos. Washington County is home to several exciting sporting events. Greenbrier State Park hosts the Maryland and Mid-Atlantic Mountain Bike Championship where hundreds of competitors converge.  In late November, over 1,000 runners compete in the oldest, largest, and most prestigious ultra-marathon in North America - the 52nd annual JFK 50-Mile. Hagerstown-Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau,  marylandmemories.com
