>OCTOBER 2013 SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH FOR TOURISM TO ISRAEL

 

340,000 tourists from around the world arrived in Israel in October 2013, a 12% increase compared to October 2012 and a new all-time high for the month. Also, approximately 551,000 tourists arrived in Israel between September and October 2013, a 3% increase compared to the same period last year.

ISRAEL ANNOUNCES FIVE MARATHONS IN FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 2014 

Israel will host a selection of unique marathons and running competitions for athletes of all levels in early 2014, including the Jerusalem International Marathon on March 21 and the Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon on February 28. Other events include the Sea of Galilee's International Tiberias Marathon on January 10; Israman and Ironman competition in Eilat, January 17; and the Dead Sea's Ein Gedi Experience half marathon, February 7-8.

JERUSALEM LISTED AMONG TRIPADVISOR'S LIST OF "TOP 10 DESTINATIONS ON THE RISE IN THE WORLD"

bridgeofstringsjerusalem Jerusalem has been named one of the "Top 10 Destinations on the Rise in the World" as part of TripAdvisor's annual Traveler's Choice Awards. Jerusalem placed number four on the list after such cities Havana, Kathmandu and Cusco. 

AMERICAN HIP-HOP ARTIST 50 CENT ARRIVES IN ISRAEL

American hip-hop music artist 50 Cent arrived in Israel for the first time ever last month, where he is pictured, at right, alongside Dan Tel Aviv General Manager Etai Eliaz. 50 Cent's arrival follows visits by Paula Abdul, Tom Jones and Rihanna in Israel this year.

HAMSHUSHALAYIM FESTIVAL TO FEATURE OUTDOOR MUSIC, DANCE AND ART PERFORMANCES IN JERUSALEM, DECEMBER 19-21

Jerusalem's annual Hamshushalayim Festival will feature live music, theater and dance performances, nighttime walking tours and culinary events, December 19-21. The Hamshushalayim Festival will also offer travelers free entrance to museums and cultural centers in Jerusalem, including the Israel Museum, Museum on the Seam and the Bible Lands Museum. www.itraveljerusalem.com

AIR TRAVEL UPDATES FROM ISRAEL

With the expected 2014 expansion of new low-cost flights connecting Europe and Israel, Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv recently opened an additional passenger hall in Terminal 1. Dozens of Europe's budget airlines are now making flying to Israel increasingly inexpensive. EL AL Israel Airlines announced last week the launch of UP, a new aviation brand offering low-cost flights to and from five European destinations, including Berlin, Budapest, Kiev, Prague and Larnaca. 

TRIP ADVISOR LISTS ACRE'S URI BURI RESTAURANT AMONG THE TOP RESTAURANTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

>Acre's Uri Buri seafood restaurant was recently named one of "Travelers' Favorite Fine Dining Restaurants - Middle East" as part of TripAdvisor's  Travelers Choice 2013 Awards. The list describes Uri Buri as having "great seafood with clever and tasty combinations."
