News from Magister Tours

Greetings, Travel Partner!

Istanbul is one of those world-class cities you can visit any time of the year and always find so much to adore. It is one of the reasons why so many travelers return over and over again.

Last month, The Los Angeles Times Travel Section featured an interesting article entitled "A food critic eats her way across Istanbul." The author offered some recommendations for dining in various parts of the city. The one thing you can really count on in Istanbul is its fabulous cuisine. From street carts to exquisite gourmet restaurants - Istanbul provides no end of satisfaction for the gastronomic connoisseur.

Here are a couple of favorite restaurants that you can recommend to your clients traveling to the city that bridges Europe and Asia:

Sekiz Istanbul - Kuloglu Mah. 1 Erol Dernek Sokak, Beyoglu. The lively restaurant with an open kitchen is set in the heart of the Beyoglu district. Chef Maksut Askar creates modern Turkish cuisine with a global flair - using ingredients he obtains from local resources. http://www.sekizistanbul.com

Kantin - 30 Akkavak Sokagi, Nisantasi. The farm-to-table restaurant in the upscale Nisantasi neighborhood under the ownership of chef Semsa Denizsel creates a delicious list of 14 dishes each day - using the freshest ingredients, locally sourced. Chef Denuzsek is also well known for her unforgettable bread and tasty desserts. http://www.kantin.biz

In addition to the wide variety of eating establishments across the city, there are also a number of cooking schools for those who wish to try their hand at creating some delicious Turkish food under the guidance of experts. Magister is happy to arrange a session for your interested clients.

Your clients who are making a return visit to Istanbul may enjoy an excursion or two in the countryside.  Consider a full-day tour to Iznik, formerly Nicea, a walled city located on a picturesque lake in the province of Bursa.  It is religiously significant for hosting the First Ecunemical  Council of the church at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD.  Visit the old city walls dating the from the Roman and Byzantine periods, and see the remains of St. Sophia Church, the site of the Second Council of Nicea in 787. After lunch, visit the Iznik porcelain workshops to see how the famous Iznik tiles and other ceramics are traditionally crafted.

Another interesting excursion in the Bursa province is the historic village of Cumalikizik on the slopes of Mt. Uludag. Ascend by cable car and then drive to one of the best preserved Ottoman villages in Turkey with many traditional Ottoman houses. Enjoy an authentic Ottoman lunch in nearby Bursa before traveling back to Istanbul.
