EASTER IN CHIANTI AT VILLA MANGIACANE

02-15-2008

Tradition and Celebration in Florence, Italy

New York, NY- Located just seven miles from Florence, Villa Mangiacane, originally built for the Machiavelli family, honors the traditions practiced during the customary Italian Easter celebration in Chianti.  The city of Florence recreates an elaborate pageant that dates back over 1,000 years.  Join in these Easter celebrations with a three night stay at Mangiacane.

Mangiacane extends its own celebration for the Easter reverence beginning on Good Friday, with champagne and canapés.  You will enjoy a traditional candlelight dinner of multiple courses including Tuscan organic lamb stuffed with homemade pecorino cheese and rosemary herbs.  The sweet ending for dessert is a Neopolitan specialty of almond paste:  Paste Napoletane.  Sunday will culminate in an extravagant Italian Brunch on Easter Sunday which begins with a Prosecco cocktail, truffle infused scrambled eggs drizzled with Mangiacane's harvested olive oil, home-made cross buns and traditional chocolate Easter eggs.  Included within the offer are two luxurious fifty minute treatments at the Nadushka Spa, handcrafted chocolates in your room upon arrival and a bottle of the estate's own Chianti.

The traditional Easter celebration in Florence begins at 9:00 am on Sunday with a historic pageant of musicians, flag throwers and dignitaries in colorful Renaissance costume escorting a tall wooden cart to the Cathedral square.  Filled with fireworks, the cart is pulled by two pairs of flower laden oxen.  An elaborate ceremony from the Duomo lights the fireworks whose explosion ensures a good harvest to the cheers of all.  All celebrations culminate in a classic customary mass at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.

Mangiacane is steeped in history and tradition.  The main villa has been completely restored including 15th century frescoes uncovered during the restoration.  Three types of award winning wines are produced on the estate including Chianti.  In true Renaissance fashion, sculptures from artists in Zimbabwe are exhibited on the property in an effort to support the arts.  With whispers that Michelangelo himself participated in the design of the property, it does not take a great deal of imagination to feel like a nobleman while sitting on the loggia and enjoying the views of Florence and the Duomo.

Easter package rates range from 1,200 Euros to 1,900 Euros.  The price is based on two people sharing, 10% VAT is not included.  The offer is valid from March 19 to March 24, 2008.   Other seasonal offers are available at www.villamangiacane.com  Villa Mangiacane is a member of Small Luxury Hotels.

Facilities at Mangiacane

The hotel is comprised of 26 rooms and suites, some offering terraces overlooking the Tuscan countryside.  The restaurant offers an outdoor terrace and herb garden offering the freshest local ingredients from the region.  Two outdoor swimming pools are available during fine weather and the Nadushka Spa, opened in June of 2007, has an indoor lap pool and luxurious treatment rooms.  Exclusive products from Officina de Tournabuoni  are used in a variety of facial and body treatments.  Mangiacane is for celebrators of life and lovers of simple pleasures.
