Tips for Planning your Lake Tahoe Vacation

09-05-2012

Lake Tahoe is known for its crystal-blue waters and dramatic landscapes. Mark Twain admired the amazing lake, and it still takes the breath away of visitors who visit it to this day. Despite being one of the most-popular tourist destinations in the U.S., it's still one of the most magnificent and clean lakes around.

Because of its sheer size and beauty, it has been dubbed the "Best Lake in the USA" by USA Today. Its beauty cannot be challenged no matter what time of year you visit Lake Tahoe, which is why it is a perfect place to take a ski trip during the winter months. The following are great tips you can use when planning a ski trip to Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Ditch the Technology

You likely are going to be away from your technology for a while — and rightfully so. Who needs a cell phone when in one of the most-breathtaking places on the planet? However, this doesn't mean you need to forget about security. Before heading out into the great outdoors, invest in identity theft protection, from a reputable source, such as Lifelock, so you don't have to worry about the personal and financial information on your mobile devices and computers back home.

Don't Forget About the Amazing Mountains

Remember that while your resort is cozy and comfortable, there is plenty to see and do, so get in some good ski time. Make sure you curtail your nightlife and partying in order to enjoy your days on the slopes. Take a tour of the mountains on skis, as many resorts offer this type of excursion.

It is important to note that you should plan your ski trip during the ski season. Luckily, at Lake Tahoe, that season is unusually long. The typical, snow-filled season runs from November through May each year, but check with the resort you are booking with just to make sure there will be enough snow to get on the slopes.

Choose from Tahoe's best Resort's

USA Today has a list of resorts it recommends for those who want to go skiing in Lake Tahoe. Some of the top hotels they suggest staying at include Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, which offers its guests 3,000 skiable acres for plenty of fun in the snow. Squaw Valley Ski Resort, which has more than 170 ski trails for its patrons and accessible by about 34 different lifts on the resort grounds. Decide which resorts have what you are looking for when it comes to not only ski trails but also restaurants and other amenities.

While it is dubbed the "best lake in the U.S.," it doesn't mean you only should visit during the warm summer months when you can head out onto the lake for some fun in the sun. Visit this spot all year round and check out more identity protection travel tips on LifeLock's Facebook page. New trends and ideas are posted regularly. A ski trip to Lake Tahoe is a wonderful experience that allows you the enjoy the great outdoors as well as all the beauty that Lake Tahoe has to offer. Remember to respect its magnitude and beauty and allow others to enjoy this American landmark for years to come.
